Yeah, this is absolutely wonderful news for homeschoolers! Uuggghhhh. I did wince when I heard that it was a homeschooler involved in this.

But was he homeschooled all his life, or did he receive most of his schooling at the public school? Was he pulled out of a ps after having been bullied or something?

And does anyone happen to know whether a homeschooler has ever actually *gone through* with a school shooting before???

The kid has had major issues, his family life was a mess, there are allegations of abuse by his mother and the courts have been involved in his life at some point. His mother supposedly gave him some kind of gun with a laser (sorry some else may know the exact gun). This kid had pictures of Hitler and the Nazi flag.

He was pulled out of school because of bulling.

Point being, I do feel sorry for this child and his victims. Hs has nothing to do with this case, he was a walking time bomb. His mother had to know how dangerous her son could be and she HAD to know the arsenal of weapons this child had.

She should be charged too, if that's possible.

They are now saying that the mother will be facing some charges for buying some of the guns for him.

The whole thing is crazy. I read something about the kid was supposed to be storing them at a friends house. But why would she buy them for him in the first place?!!

These kind of situations are so sad. Somebody failed that child at some point. No one gets to that extreme without some kind of abuse or neglect.

With a mother who purchases guns for him, I'd say that would be a good place to start.

Here's another fun tid-bit from another Yahoo Article.

"Authorities said Friday that the boy's father also tried to buy his son a rifle in 2005, but was not allowed to because he was a felon, authorities said Friday.

Frank Cossey was sentenced to house arrest for lying about his criminal record when he went to buy a .22-caliber rifle for his son in December 2005, police said Friday. On his application he said he had never been convicted of a felony, but he had pleaded guilty in 1981 to manslaughter in a drunken driving death in Oklahoma and sent to prison, police said."

:( This one is right in my backyard.

The kid was homeschooled for a year and a half - pulled from public school because of how badly he was bullied.

The other thing that they are not mentioning much is that ALL BUT ONE of the guns were air rifles (bee bee guns) and not automatic weapons. The ONE gun that was an automatic weapon WAS NOT PURCHASED by the mother - only the air rifles. And there was a legitimate reason for the air rifles - although it escapes me now.

YES, it is VERY VERY SAD. And Horrible that he did this...but it had NOTHING to do with his homeschooling and everything to do with his exposure to the public school system.

Very sad indeed. That the homeschool nay-sayers use this as an opportunity to yet again bash us.

This is really sad. We recently had a school shooting here in Ohio. It's scary what's happening to alot of kids these days. Hopefully that kid can get the help he clearly needs and hopefully his mother will get her act together as well, not very optimistic about it though.

The really sad thing is, many of the kids who do school shootings do it in retaliation to the bullying they received in school. If the school officials would ensure it does not happen, or takes steps so it is not repeated, some of the tragedies could be averted. Unfortunately, in most schools the teachers look the other way.

My daughter was punched in the stomach in front of a teacher by a student that had been bullying her ... and the teacher turned and walked away. Worse yet, that teacher was her father's brother ... and her Godfather!

He is now the school principal. Nice, huh? And the family wonders why I pulled my kids out of that school district ... Grr...

I had a 3rd grade teacher who actually encouraged the other kids to bully me.

Most just told me to grow thicker skin, though. The sick irony of schools training a child to tolerate abuse while nit picking at parents to find a reason to remove their children from the home for supposed abuse is not lost on me.

I agree, but I think of it this way. No matter what they nay-sayers say, HS cannot even BEGIN to stand up to the PS record for violence, shootings, bullying, etc.

Its so sad that this young man was not helped. So sad.
