Did anyone watch it last night (Sunday)? The girl has an extremely rare disease and cannot go to school, so they homeschool. Only positive things were mentioned, and they made them a huge room to homeschool in! I thought that was cool!

I did watch. I sat through the whole show wondering how she went to school. It wasn't until the very end when they showed the room that they mentioned she was home schooled.

The whole home was amazing, though. And that family definitely needed it.

I thought it was sooo good! They did mention earlier in th show that they hs'd and at the end I was beginning to think they weren't going to show what they came up with! The girl's situation was sad in itself but I think the mom made me cry more than the daughter! She was so good with the situation. I think it was one of the best one's I've seen yet!

Someone else might tell this better but basically she was born without the wiring in her system to know she is in pain. If I remember right, she can tolerate 30x the normal person's level of pain. Also, her body cannot handle the temperature being over 62 degrees or she pretty much starts cooking internally. They have to have the house cooler than that at all times and she has a special vest that holds ice packs.

    Wow! How tragic!
In Dare To Discipline , by Dr. James Dobson, he mentions a child who couldn't feel pain. One time his mom walked in his room and noticed blood on the bed or crib, I can't remember, and on the wall. He bit the top of his fingers off because he chewed to hard and never felt the pain.
    I wish I watched it!

Patty, can you look it up on ABC.com? Would it still be available there?

Jennifer got it right about what's wrong with her. There are only 25 known cases of it in the whole world!!! How sad, poor thing!

Yeah, I heard the mom mention earlier that since her dd couldn't go out they homeschooled.

One neat thing, I thought, was this: This girl is 10 and her brother is 12. Ty (I think) asked him if he goes out to play, and he said sometimes for a few minutes, but that his poor sister can only watch through the window from inside. So he mostly stays inside so he can be with her!

I loved that! That kid was awesome. I have a tendency to feel bad for the kids on that show who aren't sick/troubled. I'm sure it's just the spin the producers put on things, but they always make it seem like the parents' whole life is the affected child and the others get little notice.

I watched it & thought it was great. The thing I was thinking, boy it must be could in that house to have it at no higher than 62 degrees. I have our house set for 68 & think it's could. I'd probably be in a hat & mittens all the time.

I felt bad for the son as well. He has to give up a lot too.

I watched the show as well. They interviewed the dad in the "homeschool area" you could see all the books and the boards and they were diagraming sentences in the background I believe. It was all neat and orderly and such. I thought that it was a good thing they didn't really go into to much detail about it. It was just somethng they just had to do.

The one thing I thought was funny was in the new room they had 4 desks and computers. But there are only 2 kids. I just had to giggle abou that.

I find Extreme Makeover Home Edition really portrays homeschooling in a positive way. They have built homes for other homeschooling families andn they always build school rooms in the houses - sometimes complete with laptops for all of the children. It's a great show - I rarely make it through without crying!!

I agree. I think this is the third one that had homeschooling in it, that I remember. And it's never portrayed negatively!

My kids tease me when I start sniffling--"Oh mom, are your allergies acting up again? Funny they only act up on Sunday evenings during EHM!" ;)
