Last year my daughter was in public school 1st grade. I was told that she was dyslexic and needed major intervention. I'm still in denial of that. I don't believe it at all. This year we began homeschooling all 4 of the kids my oldest being in the 5th grade and youngest in Pre-k. I did research for 6 months on differant curriculums trying to pick the best ones for my children. I picked Explode the Code for my daughters phonics. We started in book 3. She was ok with it and finished it and we moved into book 3 1/2 because I didn't think she was ready to move on. She caught and began to get board so we moved into book 4. She is almost done with it now and all of the sudden something clicked. She is reading EVERYTHING!! Her word problems in her math workbooks was a big problem. I would have to stop what I was doing with the other kids to stand over her and help her if she had a problem. She has read 3 books this week and is working on another. She reads her AWANA lessons herself,I only have to help her every now and then. I am SO proud of her!! I knew homeschooling was the best thing for my kids. I was so afraid that I wouldn't be able to do it adequately though. I have been able to watch my children progress above and beyond what they would've in public school. And I was able to take a part in teaching them. I am SO proud of all of them. They are all so smart!! Comparing last year to this year just amazes me. My son's teacher was pushing me to have my son checked for ADD. I never seen anything at home that would point to it. School was just too boring for him. My other son always had belly aches and was sent home from school all the time because of them. He hasn't had ONE single belly ache this year. And the best thing of all is I am seeing my children grow in the Lord. Their faith in him is stronger then it has ever been. Our family is growing closer. I ENJOY my children. I see them in a totally differant way than I did. They are such a blessing. People tell me all the time that I have my hands full. I agree, My hands are full of blessings!!!! THIS is what it's ALL ABOUT. I just wish I would've started homeschooling sooner.
Congrats to all, you too Mom it took alot of work on your part to get them where they are. Sure, glad its working out for you all. Keep up the good work.
Yep, your hands are full, and so is your heart. Congratulations on your success!! I love homeschool success stories, they keep me encouraged. No public school teacher is going to take the time, and put in the effort that a homeschool mom takes with her own kids. We love them, and we go out of our way to give them the best we can. We teach from our hearts, where they do not. I hope your kids continue to prove those teachers wrong!! Blessings and hugs to you!! Dianna
That is awesome and scary at the same time. The awesome part is how you turned your kids back onto learning and how they are thriving. The scary part is how quickly schools want to label children. It always seems like they want to say it is the child's problem and not a problem with the instructional method.
That is soooo great! That's what I've always loved about homeschooling: seeing MY kids make advances in their faith and their schoolwork, and being there for them when they need the help! I wouldn't have it any other way! Congratulations!!! Great job mom!!! I hope you have many continued successes, and I'm lad you got to be there to see that light go on for your dd!!!
