Wow! Well said. I have been trying to tell non-believers this for years. Some people get it some don't. I have stopped worrying about it, and let my kids learn as they can. I do provide some structure, but we follow their interests as well.
Thank you for sharing that. I really needed to hear that today. Sometimes it is easy to doubt yourself.
I'm over trying to get others to understand that simple fact. A stranger could be around my son for 5 minutes and know some of what he's learning. How could I not know? So glad our state doesn't require mandatory testing. I'd rather judge what my son knows by observation anyway.
We might be behind on some things but are ahead on others. I am worrying less all the time. I know now that some subjects are learned in spirts. In the mean time I have nicely behaved children who I can take almost anywhere and not worry about there manners, actions and so forth. A sure sign that they are not being socialized properly. To this point both are still children concerned with things that kids are concerned with. At the same time we watch the news together and discuss what is going on in the world both good and bad.
Here, here. I have never had anyone complain about the behavior of my children. In fact there are some adults how are suprised that they have more intelligent conversations with my girls than with other adults.
