I think that there are different degrees of sin in terms of the repentence process. That is, comparing an adult who steals a candy bar with an adult who is a child molester: the change of heart and coming to Christ is a more difficult and prolonged process for the second than for the first. I don't believe a change of heart means just saying "Oops, I'm sorry." Look at your kids - do you take the growly "sorry" (the one that means "I'm sorry Mom caught me and now I have to stand here and say I'm sorry") as sincere?

That said, once a person truly has a change of heart and comes to Christ, I believe His atonement is enough to cleanse all sin. Period.

Now, in terms of those who do not come to Christ - I believe that the eternal punishment for person B and person A, if neither come to Christ, is different.

But then, I also believe that the worst form of hell will be looking back and seeing that we could have come to Christ and chose not to.

I can't remember who said it, while reading through these posts. But it was noted that here on Earth their are different levesl of punishment for sins. Which means that their are different levels of 'sin'.

But in God's eyes I tend to believe that their are also different levels of sin. Meaning that he may/will give more of a chance or break to those who've stole candy rather then those who've killed??
I am not sure that came out as I want it to. But maybe someone will get what I mean.

This is correct. I also believe that this is why we are called to go and witness to the lost so that one day they will realize that Asia exists and is truly beautiful land.

    I agree and respectfully disagree.
I believe the motive of a persons heart has to rest in the hands of the Lord. Speaking for myself, I do consider some sins more damaging than others although I do believe that all sin is wrong and needs to be addressed. Yet, I know I do not feel this way because I am trying to let myself off the hook.
But I do believe without a doubt that Christ is the only way to defeat sin; for our everlasting life with Him and here on earth.

Yes, I would agree that some are more DAMAGING than others. And some have more severe consequences than others. And you are right in that a person's heart is in the Lord's hands, rather than yours or mine. Which is a good thing, as He is a perfect judge. I'm so glad they are not dependent on my imperfect judgement!

    "Grace, grace, God’s grace,
    Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
    Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin. "

I have just been so blessed reading through this thread, especially the interchange between Patty and Jackie, but all of the posts, really. Proverbs says it is the privilege of kings to search out the heart of a matter, so we've been blessed even in searching for the truth. 'Love you gals!

I don't know how I missed this thread and I know it's a little late but this is what I think for what it's worth. I believe that while sin does have different consequences here on earth, there is only one consequence for sin in God's eyes. "For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23" This verse gives me the basis for my belief that all sin is equal in God's eyes that God does not see differences in the severity of the sin. Also Jesus died on the cross to save you and me from our sins. His death is our salvation, he was the ultimate sacrifice. In the old testament a burnt offering was given to receive forgiveness for sin and as far as I can remember the offering was given no matter what the sin. So while man has distinguished levels of sin for purposes of consequences here on earth, I don't belie that God sees any difference in sin. This is why we are all sinners and why no one person can ever be any better than another because " All have sinned and come short of the glory of God " So in God's eyes all sin is the same.

Yes, this is why I enjoy threads and conversations in general such as this. They are never a waste of time if they can edify and bring us understanding.

We had our vehicle broken in to last weekend, someone smashed out the window and stole the digital camera and all of my asthma medication including my nebulizer which I still owed $78.00 on, my inhalers, Singulair, etc. amounted to over $600.00 in RX's.

When we approached our vehicle and saw the window broken out I figured it was just vandalized and then when we discovered that my asthma medication that I had just filled for three months was stolen I felt the violation and the person's sin was greater than breaking out my window. I kept thinking of HOW someone could take someone's asthma medication/their life line. I kept thinking that the person who stole it must have been really evil to steal my medication that was so necessary for me to be okay medically.

In my way of thinking at that moment there were different levels of sin because of how I felt upon the discovery of the window being broken vs. discovering my precious asthma medication had been stolen. The window represented a thing and the medication represented my well being.
    Make sense?

    Absolutely.

It would be similar to having someone break in while you're there, and when no one was home. One would be way more traumatic, I would think!

OMGosh Katie, that sux! I can't believe someone would do that! Did the nebulizer have insurance or anything on it? Will they provide another one!?
I hate that for you! Let me know if there's anything I can do!
