Catchy Title? Okay, I volunteer this year as a drama teacher at the school I let my dd and older ds attend in thier senior years ( It is a school run by a home school parent who now teaches using SOS and Mus, and CLE and Ace)
He teaches home school style but its in a group setting...

Okay Ds 12 got to come with and join in Drama class and feild trips because we were the teacher, so now my son who didnt care to ever go to school until college, wants to know when he can go out. He wants to go all through High School like bigb rother did, and dh and I said maybe for senior year like sister!
    sigh

He and I talked about it and he said he really likes the group class things.
I was thinking of teaching Math at the school next year for his sake but I ca only do it if I can do it on a day I am already going to the church because of the gas prices now days. I volunteer to teach no pay for gas.
I am wondering what to do.

So, what would you do?>??? ds will do 8th grade next year and I have been so loking forward to the years ahead doing more exiting feild trips in US when we study us HISTORY, GOIGN TO HISTORICAL SITES, oops yelled a bit. I know I have a whole year to think about it and pray but I know some of you have send yoru kids out, or been involved in schools outside, bigger home school groups and such, I like my ds how he is, I dont want him picking upthe rude language or snyde remarks the other kids use. I see that happening already with this group at our church's school...

okay so my question is: or Are?: What changes can I make that would give ds a group setting type learning, but still home school.. maybe this is just a phase too, its that age it seems!
I think I will plan to keep hsing through high school and eventually if God leads then let him go, I reminded him of how we prayed and looked to God for a clear cut answer for dd and for ds both. God came through when it was the right time.

So since I mentioned that I will ask this too----- did any of you pray first before sending our your child with a desire to be "in class'?

Sometimes I wish my dd had stayed home this year but I know God made it clear on that one. So with ds I plan to keep hm home all the way but workout somehow for him to try out for a local baseball team at a high school because he wants to play pro ball.. I figure if he can get a scholarship on sports that works too!
He wants to do this since he was 5, and the architechtual engineer stuff as well so...
if he home schools I can prepare him for the intellectual side and even since its just he and I we can play ball practice constatnly too!
so I think it is best to keep him forever home until college of course.
I love homeschooling and I see it as my identity-- the homeschool mom is me. Not what I do... kwim?
I don't want it to be about me but about his education and protection ( yes I said it!) from the world and its messes.

"God made it clear to me...." That says a lot. You had your plans, and God told you to do otherwise. You obeyed. While I think it's fine to let your son do some group learning stuff, RIGHT NOW God hasn't made it clear to you to discontinue homeschooling. Your son needs to understand that 1) you and your husband need to be obedient to what God is directing. 2) Your son needs to be submissive to his parents as they are obedient to God in this. 3) If he feels the need to "go to school", then he is more than welcome to bring that to God. 4) God will work THROUGH HIS PARENTS. He won't tell your son he needs to change the situation without informing YOU of this!

Jackie this is what I was thinking this morning. He is my prayer warrior so when I felt the need to explain to him why his sister and brother went when they did he took it to heart. I did not tell him he could pray though, kinda maybe because I really want him home cause hes my baby, but didn't really think on it much more than a passing thought.

I think out of all three kids he would be the one to understand the will of God being the most important. He is my miracle child after all--- ( my beyond blue baby) and has been told over and over his tale of his birth to the poitn he KNOWs God has a plan for him too.

If there are other parents of faith that you trust that are home schooling the same age group you might consider discussing with them gathering perhaps once a week all of the children together for a group class. This could be a day long event and contain classes such as literature, debate, bible study etc or could simply be gathering together for one class. This would allow your son time to make friends his age without the risk of the negative behaviors prominent in normal school systems. He would also be able to learn to work in a group situation which will be beneficial to him as he gets older.

Rose, the kids that are probably my oldest's "best" friends are like-minded homeschool kids she has met through co-ops or group classes of one kind or another. It's wonderful to see how they influence each other for good! She has played soccer for the past two years on a team that she originally joined because there were some hs'ed girls on it that were "friends of friends". Probably half of the kids on it are Christian, some homeschooled and some Christian school, and again, it's been a wonderful experience. She's trying to organize them to pray before each game.

This is great the last two posts are addressing things I was jut thinking on a few moments ago. I could just work within the home school community to give him that group working thing... I was going to teach a writting class this year but didnt so maybe they will let me do it next fall?
WIth the home schoolers, cause they are much more like ds, for one thing, and very grounded group of kids...
then he will have me doing something for him like I did for dd... lol no hard feelings and all that haha.
I dont like to give place to jealousy but I don't like to give reason for it if at all possible either.

We brought home rather than send out. But one of the kids I'm teaching now was homeschooled like his six older sibs, from the beginning. Year before last, he (known as the rebelliious one, the discontent one, the difficult one at home) started "I want to go to school!!!" Public school was simply out of the question for his family, but I know they prayed and prayed about it, before deciding that our little school was an acceptable compromise. So last year he started with us, and is just completing his second year with us. He keeps wanting to come back, so his parents will probably let him stay with us, and I know they've talked together about maybe he'll stay and graduate with us too. He's a terrific kid - although he has some distinct learning difficulties and if he had gone to public school, there's no doubt in my mind that they would have labeled him as mentally disabled (he's about to turn 13 this month, just finishing 3rd grade math and in the middle of second grade reading).

Actually, my little group is registered as a private school NOT seeking state approval. This is both a homeschool option and a nonpublic school option. They're not registered as homeschoolers but private-schoolers. I don't even have to send in their names or anything -- all I have to do is write a letter stating that in accordance with *this law* (numbers and letters and such) I'm registering, I'm planning to present a sustained curriculum at least equal to that of public schools, and I'm planning to have 180 days in my school year. I also say how many kids as of the date (not more than 30 days after the school year starts), but I don't have to list their names, what grade they're in, or anything else about them.

okay, thats cool, we are a private home school in our state,
just curious as that could be an option for me if this one school I know has to close due to lack of funding... they are already running a special that gives only 200 a month tuitioN!
