Okay, here we are into our new school year, and I have made it pretty clear to the kids that we have started the year and the girls will not be able to come out to play during the day.
    IN ONE DAY!

Knock On The Door- Kid 1 Do you have a bandaid?

KOTD- Kid 2 Do you have a water sprinkler Riley can play with, she's crying and we can't make her stop. (Pretty good chance they are home alone)

KOTD- Kid 3 Can you fix my bike seat?

KOTD- Kid 1 again, Can your husband put some videos on my player thingie (dh is at work, for the one hundredth time, good bye!)

KOTD Kid 2 again Do you have a water hose we can use with the sprinkler you loaned us? (What else do you need, water too?!)

KOTD- Kid 4 Can the girls come out to play now?

Neighbor came over to see if he could borrow a tool to fix his car. Dug all through the shed, couldn't find it, big waste of time.

Plus 3 phone calls, this was just between 10 am and 5 pm.

I am going to clobber them all! I am SO frustrated, ok so here are my best two options so far.
One, wire the door, so that anytime a munchkin touches it they are electrocuted!
OKAY, that would probably land me in the pokey, bad idea. Next!

Make a sign and post it on the door. Believe it or not, all of these kids are big enough to read.

    1. If you are bleeding, and need a band-aid, find your mom.
    2. If your bike or XYZ needs fixed, find your dad.
    3. If you need to borrow something, go to the library.
    4. If you haven't had a meal today, call DFS
    5. NO, we can't play today. Or tomorrow. Stop asking.
    6. Pick up your trash, toys, and pets and get out of my yard.
    7. Stay out of it.
    8. Don't call. I mean it.
    9. Don't knock on my door again.
    10. Yes! YOU!

    There's my rant LOL!

sounds like our neighbor hood. I just shut the curtains, lock the door and don't answer they knock, ring the bell all they want.

I got that way too. I wouldn't answer the door or the phone. They would eventually take the hint. I would tell them that my kids would call them when they are done with school but until then we would not have any distractions/disturbances. I hope that you can find what works for you.

For us it only lasted one day. Seeing these kids can read I would put a sign up saying something like "school is in session please don't disturb" this way when you don't answer the door they will be reminded why.

I used to have a very large wooden sign at the end of my driveway that advertised that I sold Pampered Chef. It had my phone number on it. (Peanutsweet, if you are like many in town, I probably just told you right where I live since it seems like EVERYONE in Springfield knew my sign. lol) After several people, adults that is, knocked on my door at all hours of the day and night wanting to order, I had my FIL add hanging extensions I could add printed signage in. I added, "Please call to order." People still knocked instead. I added a box by my front door, the kind realtor put home information in, and placed catalogues in it. On it, I put a sign that said, "I'd be happy to schedule a time to meet with you. Please call ____ to make an appointment." Please still knocked (often just to ask for a catalogue... *roll eyes*). I finally had to put up signs that said, "Homeschool in progress, please do not disturb." They still knocked.

Finally, I had to take my sign down. My business was not worth the constant (and I do mean constant, since I live on a relatively busy street) interruptions.

My point? Adults don't respect simply requests like "do not disturb." I wouldn't expect a child to, either.

Unplug the phone, ignore the door.

Love, love the sign idea, but I have had a few encounters with people who have no boundaries and all I can say is that they will either think you are just kidding or that you couldn't possibly mean them.

So, it comes down to doing what Amie wrote. They get really tired out fast when no one answers the door or a phone call.

I have a neighbor girl (5) that came up to play with my dd. She ended up hitting my dd put marks on her back and called her nasty names, while her 13 year old sister watched!!! When I went outside she took off home. She came back saying she was sorry and wanted to play, I told her to get home and to never come back. Her mother called me and told me that I broke her little girls heart and girls are going to fight. I told her to keep her little girls at home, she has 3, and that my little girl does not fight. 2 days later the 3 year old was at my house at 9:30pm by herself wanting to play. I took her back home and told the mother she was at my house (8 houses away) and she needed to watch her better. The mother told me that she gets away so fast. The girls continue to come back and want to play with my dd:shock: The mother don't watch her girls or care where they are.

I have come to the conclusion that the only solution to the problem of neighbors that bother us, is to move to a 10 acre piece of property and put our house in the middle of it.:D

I just don't answer the door - we have a front window and I "peek" out to see who it is. Unless it is UPS or a police officer, I don't open it.

I had some of the same problems before we moved. One "family" had two girls. The youngest was 5 or 6. She would come over to play with Grace and leave her stuff all over my yard. The oldest asked Sam if she could ride her bike once while they were all outside. Sam said she could and the girl just took off. My husband found her over 7 blocks away at the store!. Sam went and told the girls mother and the mother went and got the bike back. I told her to keep her heathens at her own house! Later I found out that the mother left her two girls in the care of a man she had just met so she could go out of town for two weeks. We had nothing but problems from all of the kids on our street except our next door neighbors.

I am so glad I now live in the middle of nowhere!

This is one of the reasons we moved. I'll never forget a girl (age 8 or so) running into my house (forget knocking) and started SCREAMING for my daughter *who was hiding from her because she wanted her to go away*.... my husband was upstairs sleeping because he was going to work that night and he came out of the bedroom terrified something was wrong....then pissed because he was woken up and couldn't go back to sleep.

The last straw (when DH finally decided to seriously look at the real estate listings in the area) was when someone started their lawn mower at 6am on a Saturday! Just completely disrespectful of others.

Ohio Mom ten acres isn't big enough if the kids are loud enough. ;OP 100 acres might do it. Kids can be annoying when they haven't been taught proper boundaries at home. And even then some are just thick headed. Patience is a virtue and when that runs out hide!

I know how you feel. We have small neighbors all down our street that roam around like a pack of wild dogs. They have done SOOO many things to our house, and they SERIOUSLY make me want to move. Here are SOME of teh things that have happened:

    1. Broke MIL's liscense plate cover when they kicked it.
    2. Tormented some stray dogs by throwing rocks and kicking at them.
    3. Threw fireworks at our garage door/put fireworks in our mailbox.
    4. Broke into our garage and tried to steal Kids' big pick up truck. Ran off b/c they knocked over a mattressw/ stuff on it and it crashed to the floor, made lots of noise and we all ran downstairs to look.

After every incident we see who these kids are, but we have no idea which house is theirs b/c they scatter in every direction like cockroaches. I love kids, but dang it, these kids really tick me off. Are parents totally non existant in their lives?!?!

We moved into this neighborhood b/c it looked nice, and very quiet, HECK, we pay $700 a month to live here, and I really regret it. We can't even leave toys/flowers/anything on our RAISED back porch b/c they steal/destroy whatever it is!!

I really do feel sorry for you, and I know how you feel. I just wouldn't answer my door. If you don't rent your home, you could install a peep hole fairly easily.

Probably!!! One time when Rachael was 5, there was another Rachael who lived on the court. "Big Rachael" was 6; my daughter was "Little Rachael". Anyway, one night during the winter, Big Rachael's older brother came knocking on my door, asking, "Is Rachael here?" I thought he meant MY Rachael, and was confused why he would be looking for my daughter. No, he was out looking for his little sister. Well, it was 7:00 at night, in the winter, which meant it'd been dark for at least an hour! No, she wasn't at my house. It bugged the heck out of me that 1) no one knew where this little girl was, and 2) it had taken them so long to realize she wasn't around and no one knew where she was.
