I'm super excited right now and HAVE to share it with someone!!!! (And if I post on FB DH will be embarrassed). My DH hasn't had a whole lot of direction since I've known him. He works hard, but always at a job that he chooses based on necessity. He went to a couple of semesters of "college" at an unaccredited trade school right out of high school, but it wasn't what he wanted to do, either (he thought he'd get a 'decent job' out of the education). So he didn't finish. A few months ago he talked about getting a degree in business, but again, because he thought it was marketable. He'd totally not a business person. His first love is art. So business isn't even on the correct side of his brain. lol. He was still talking in "someday" terms, though (you know, "someday I'll get a degree") He called me this morning and asked if I could get him so information about the Culinary Arts program at the community college. I called him back with the information. He told me to fill out the application and get him all set. When I called back to clarify the term he was applying for, he said, "well, Fall, if it's not too late." I can not even begin to tell you how happy I am! I've known for years that he would be happy as a chef, but he didn't really see it. He told me he felt God was really pushing him on this for the last few days and he felt completely overwhelmed by the thought this morning. Like, he couldn't focus on work at all until he called me to act on his feeling. Only then could he concentrate on work. So his FAFSA is filled out, his application to the college is filled out, his advising appointment is scheduled, and I have a call in to the testing lady to work out a time he can take the placement test. When I called to tell him it was all done, he actually sounded a little excited (and that is TOTALLY not his personality. Not that he's never happy, but he's never excited)!
That's GREAT! I'm so HAPPY for him!!! I'm glad he's found something he's really into!!! (And great for you since you get to sample all of his Culinary Geniusness!! LOL)
Yeah. That thought has already crossed my mind. Muahahahahaha. (Shhhhh. No one tell him that today Yahoo news rated Culinary Arts one of the top ten lowest paying degrees. I don't care what he makes, but he would)
How wonderful!!! Be prepared...having a husband taking classes is DIFFICULT!!! But it is WELL WORTH IT in the long run. Regarless of the money aspect, he is much happier doing what he wants.
I figure he's dealt with me being in school for 7 semesters since we got married. Granted, I'll be in grad school (online classes only for now) the whole time, too, but I will do whatever I can to support him in this. Especially since he'll still be working a minimum of 54 hours a week. I'm looking for a job right now, too. So if I get hired on that will be better. Since I'll have a bachelor's, in theory, I can make more than he does. And I think I can handle working + school better than he could. I'm not knocking him, but his job is physically and mentally taxing. And he has to be there at 5 am. So for him to come home after 11 hour days and then go to class or do homework.. that's gonna be rough. If I can get a job, it would be more normal hours (not 5 am) so I can stay up a little later to do school work. Especially since my classes will be all online. And my job wouldn't be physically demanding so I'd be less sleepy then he is.
It's great how God brings these things about in the right timing. We'll pray that the rest of the details come together too.
There is no better feeling than doing God created you to do! You are to be commended for being sensitive to his gifts and for encouraging him as a wife. I know how much happier our family is now that my dh is doing what he is gifted at as opposed to what will just pay the bills. Thank you for sharing with us!
This is great. And because he feels he is obeying the Lord, he and you will be blessed. "Trust and obey for there is no other way..."
Congrats to hubby! Hope everything works out for the both of you! Thoughts and prayers coming your way!
That is such exciting news. I will pray for you as I am sure that it will be tuff, BUT when God says that is what is going to happen, it sure does make it easier!
