I am wanting to change up the way we do breakfast around here. So I need some ideas, as usual;)

*Does your family eat brkfast all together?
*Do you fix brkfast for everyone, even the ones old enough to do it themselves?
*What kinds of things does your family eat for brkfast?
*Are there any good make ahead iteams to fix for brkfast?

These are just a few questions, please fell free to add whatever you would like. Thanks, again.

We don't eat ANY meal at the same time (I hate that... but that's how dh's schedule works out). The boys (hubby included) aren't big on breakfast. My older son will sometimes get his own (a granola bar or whatever from the pantry). My younger son is happy with milk and stealing bites of cereal from his daddy. Dh always has cereal. Even if I cook, he'll get cereal. He hates breakfast but knows he needs to eat a little something. I get whatever I want... which usually ends up being oatmeal or biscuits with sausage and/or honey.

We're not big breakfast people unless DH is home in the morning and willing to get up with the rest of us (which is one day a week), and I fix a big breakfast (bacon, waffles, toast, eggs) But usually I make toast for breakfast, cereal, oatmeal. Sometimes I make waffle batter the night before so all I need to do is stir it and pour it in the maker in the morning. Cuts out on mixing the stuff and all. Once in a great while I'll make french toast the same way. The kids and I usually sit at the table and eat together in the mornings.

We are huge cereal eaters here. That is one thing I want to change!

Oh my this is so me. I used to think breakfast was really stayed with only cereal. And the kids don't really like cereal here soooooo a lot of comments were being made about cereal being boring and they stopped wanting to eat breakfast.
Breakfast is the MOST important meal of the day as it gives your brain the energy required to make decisions and so on throughout the morning. So skipping it isn't an option in my home.
We don't usually eat altogether as DH goes to work before we are up. I generally ask the kids what they want and give them two or three options. I will list those for you.

    -yogurt and granola
    -fruit
    -oatmeal
    -cereal
    -red river cereal
    -cream of wheat
-french toast ( they like it with cinnamon added to the mix and in sticks)
    -eggs and toast
-boxed cereal- usually I try to stay away from sugary ones but buy those as a treat on occasion
    -pancakes
    -waffles
    -muffins
They also love the eggs DH makes with toast in the frying pan. He cuts a whole in the buttered toast and puts an egg in the whole. Not sure what you would call it other then 'eaten' lol
We only have things like bacon, and breakfast sausage once in a blue moon because it isn't that healthy.
A couple of times I have tried those overnight Mom savers with cubed bread and cream cheese and blueberries. But no one seemed to thrilled. I also have made egg fried bread and bacon sandwiches to take camping. You make them in the oven overnight but again no one liked them.
I keep trying to come up with new breakfast foods so it isn't too dull :) Hope that helps you some.

Now what about lunches? LOL That's where I am getting stumped with my picky eaters :)

I am sorta a lug in the morning. Even though I have to be at work at 5:30am. But, on the day's that I don't. We do not eat together. It's our lounge time to be on the computer, reading or even watching cartoons. I enjoy being alone to wake up. So do my children. We do however eat lunch and dinner as a family meal. Except, one night a month we have TV dinner night where we rent a movie and I let my kids eat the junky TV dinners. They love it. I am big on protien for breakfast I don't care if its a egg, nutella, peanut butter, cheese, etc... But, they make it themselves. My kids are good cooks and enjoy it. I am blessed that way.

Oh, and by the way my husband works swing shift. Which is every 7 days he changes from mornings, afternoon, and then night shift. So even if he isn't home we eat as a family. If I am tired then I call my parents and ask if we can scam dinner off of them. Then we have a bigger family meal.

I think that is call "Eggs in a Basket!" "Eaten" works, too.:) As far as cereal goes, like I said early, we all love it. My 18yo would eat it all day long if I let him. We don't do the sweet ones either. Every now and then I will by one for a treat, but then we eat it for a snack after Church or for a dessert, but not for breakfast.

For lunch, we all eat together and have ham and cheese sand., pbj, sloppy joes, pasta w/butter and cheese, leftovers. But would like some more ideas, too!

I am going to try and change breakfast, too. I am going to actually put up a menu, and we ARE going to eat what's on it. No choice (or limited chice!)

Breakfast is our biggest meal of the day. With dh on call 24/7/365....I like to be sure we at least start our day off right. We probably only eat cereal once a week & it's usually what my son wants as his lunch....nothing TOO bad...we usually have cheerios or raisin bran.

I'm not sure. Cold cereal probably twice a week. I'm not a morning person, and I don't get up and cook. But something's got to change!!! Probably oatmeal once or twice a week, maybe if I made and froze waffles that could be easily warmed up..... I'm open to suggestions!

We've never really had a family breakfast. My oldest dislikes breakfast foods, my other son sleeps in too late, #3 leaves before everyone else is awake, dh is always running late so he just grabs a banana or cup of yogurt and the little ones want to pick what they have for breakfast. I'm afraid the sit down family breakfast is unlikely in my house. We'll have pancakes on Sunday morning, but the rest of the week everybody is on their own.

We absolutly love Mary B's frozen biscuits! They're great with so many things and taste FAB! :) We're heavy on the cereal, but also have frozen pancakes, yogurt, pb and j toast and of course, the biscuits! :)

My aunt's boys who went to public school couldn't stand cereal. She got in the habit of making grilled cheese. After all who says it has to be a 'breakfast food' anyway. So long as it is nutritious and takes the hunger away it is doing it's job.

I just started thinking about this myself. Inspired by this blog post http://www.aholyexperience.com/2010/08/one-parenting-habit-that-changes.html I'm not a big breakfast person-the only time in my life I ate it daily was while pregnant and breastfeeding....my 3 year old is also not a fan of breakfast-he usually doesn't eat anything until he's been up for 1-3 hours.

We do do breakfast some mornings though.

    Our most common breakfasts are:

    Cold cereal
    pancakes and sausage or bacon
bacon or sausage, eggs and toast or biscuits
    oatmeal and toast
    biscuits, gravy, grits, eggs, sausage/bacon
    french toast w/ bacon/sausage

It really got me to thinking-ya know-so I thought I'd share.

I think family meals are important-and my kids eat better when we eat together...

We definatly need to work on changing up our meals-but, on such a tight budget, we buy what's cheapest over and over and over...

I wanna start doing fun stuff like this http://www.kraftrecipes.com/recipes/finagle-this-bagel-106589.aspx LOL

When we get up in the morning, I always make sure the kids get breakfast just so they have something in their stomach before they start school. We alternate with these:

Eggs, Toast, Sausage and Pan Fries
    Cereal, Toast and Fruit
    Flavored Oatmeal and Fruit
    French Toast, Bacon and Fruit
    Breakfast Sandwich with Fruit
    Chicken Biscuit and Fruit

When I say fruit, my kids have a choice of picking from Bananas, Oranges or Apples or a Seasonal fruit, such as Blueberries, Strawberries or Raspberries. I am thankful that both my kids LOVE fruit and will eat it at every meal. Another thing they love is Cottage Cheese, which they are welcome to have at Breakfast as well! :)
