Do any of you follow her methods for home cleaning and organization?

While I haven't fully integrated her methods, I still use some and love it.

It helped me tremedously a few years ago. Totally changed my way of running my household. I do NOT follow all her methods or receive the emails. The biggest thing I like is the swish and swipe. My bathrooms are always clean now. Also making sure the kitchen is clean and sink is shinned before I go to bed. Makes waking up early nicer when I dont' have to clean the kitchen in the morning.

I used to use her oh.. 6 or 7 years ago? Something like that.

I do some of the things still as well. I love the idea of running through the house throwing stuff. And I work hard to put out clutter fires. She helped me set up my daily cleaning habits so that, even though we've moved and I stopped making lists, I still keep one in my head. I still throw on a load of laundry first thing in the morning, and try not to obsess about what I haven't accomplished etc etc.

I didn't like the 700 emails, or the sort of.. military camp orders. I also think the fact that I'm working harder to clean does NOT make my family work harder, despite what she says. My dh certainly could care less, and will even be the one to drop his dirty socks on the newly cleaned floor  I did stop nagging him, and I do try not to be irritated.... :(

I wanted to follow and probably need to, but the emails drove me crazy so after about 3 days of all of those I stopped. Plus, I can't stand to wear shoes in my own house! Any suggestions on following without all the emails?

I dont' wear shoes in my home either. Everyone takes them off at the door. I don't like to wear shoes at all! I just read through the everything on the site and implemented what works for me.

I, too, signed up with FlyLady and immediately hated all the emails. I changed the email delivery to the "daily digest" format, but those are emailed (to me) at about 10 or 11pm each night. Not very helpful unless I just do everything a day behind (which is ok). I decided I'd just read through her website (there's a LOT to read), and glean what I could from it. I also found her book Sink Reflections at a discount, so I bought that, too. It's much better organized than the site and all the emails.

So right now I am taking her principles and applying them to my life as I can. I don't need daily emails to keep on track.

I looked through her website and picked up a few things. I do most of the cleaning at night so everything is condensed to one time of day, but my house is still cleaner than what it was. I don't do the emails either.

I signed up for flylady yesterday and so far only a welcome email and one today, so not as bad as I thought! The ideas look good and we are in desperate need of organising in this house! so come 1st Jan we are sorting this house out lol I think our problem is doing a little every day, we seem to go made one weekend and then forget about it for a few months, until I cant take anymore of the mess and then we are all hands on deck again! so I really hope this can help us, not too sure about my shiny sink, and how early I will end up in bed (I really like my bed and need as much sleep as I can get - if I could I would sleep 8pm till 8am!!!)

I think the biggest thing for me has been to get something done EVERY day. The only days I give myself 'off' are sick days LOL. And even then, I'm HORRIFIED at how bad it gets how quickly.

    Good luck!

I tried it a while back. Like everyone else I could not wear my shoes all day though I do get her point. I do feel more ready to go if I am up and dressed. I tend to lounge all day if I stay in my pajamas.

I followed a few other things for a while but over all she just didnt really work for me. I could probably go and pick out things that worked but just havent bothered.

No shoes here either! My allergies can not stand all the allergens that get dragged in from people's shoes, and I don't want to clean my floors every day! Our carpeting is very old, but it's in good shape because I do not allow shoes. :) If asking people to take their shoes off saves me $1000 every so many years so I don't have to buy carpeting...so be it!

Now...I do make some exceptions. Our friend who has foot issues, wears a permanant foot cast, and is 7 feet tall...I never make him because he really physically can't and I would feel SUPER rude if I asked him. There are some exceptions like that, but everyone else...TAKE'EM OFF!!! LOL

Does this FlyLady not get that you will have to clean MORE if you wear shoes in the house? Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Not if you have a pair that you ONLY wear inside the house! ;)

I have no idea. I've never actually (not in recent memory, anyway) checked out her website. I was just making a little funny, in a way that would solve both conditions: avoiding bringing the outside into the house, AND Flylady's suggestion to be "completely dressed, including shoes".

I somewhat follow her methods. Since I started homeschooling the kids I find it easy to stay in my lounge clothes until after school is done and then by that time I didn't feel like getting dressed in clothes I could wear in public. So her "getting dressed to the shoes" thing was great. I don't wear shoes in the house either. I put on clothes that I can wear out and put on socks that way if I needed or wanted to go somewhere on a whim. I doesn't take forever to get ready and go out the door. I also like the swish and swipe and shining my sink ideas. I always said that if my bathroom and kitchen are clean then I'm fine with the rest of the house. I've since added my laundry to that list of "must be done" things. A load a day in the washer keeps it from piling up. Flylady has definately helped me get my house somewhat in order. I just use what works for me and my family and ditch the rest.

I am a flybaby! Though I don't follow the program to a T, I have learned a lot from her. Such as

    • I NEED a list
    • I get more done if I get dressed
    • I don't have to clean PERFECTLY-so long as I do something-it helps (ex: you don't have to move furniture to vacuum-just vacuum around it is better than not vacuuming at all)
    • a few minutes here and there make a BIG difference

Yes she does-somewhere on her site say if you have the 'no shoes in the house rule" to buy a pair just for in the house to clean in.

Really???? That just seems absurd to me. I personally don't even like the feel of wearing shoes around the house, clean or dirty.

I do however, LOVE LOVE LOVE my slippers!!! I need slippers without the hard soles though or else it just feels like I'm wearing shoes. ;) I'm just not a 'shoe' person altogether. In the summer, I'm always barefoot and only wear sandals when going out.:)
