I just spent the last week and the entire day yesterday ordering everything and planning out Gracie's first 12 weeks of 3rd grade. All except math. I about ordered the first light unit of CLE but didn't.

What are your thoughts on this math program??

I LOVE CLE math! We started out with Math U See and it just wasn't working for my daughter. We started the CLE math and really like it. I liked it so much I bought the CLE, social studies, language arts, science and reading.

I love the math, too. (But then, I love the LA too and you and Gracie hated it.) It's spiral, like Saxon, but with far better explanations and examples. I always had to *teach* Saxon (54 through Alg I) but the kids can mostly do CLE without help. The first unit of math is set up differently from the other 9 units in each course. The -01 unit is a review of the highlights of the previous year's course, so don't judge the whole course by the first unit. DO use the diagnostic test (free for the printing at www.clp.org) before buying. You can see sample pages there too. http://www.clp.org/store/by_subject/4 Click on "View Details" then click on the little Adobe symbol to see pdf samples.

Okay I am going to order the first light unit today for grade 3. I took a look at the test and feel like this is where she needs to be. Even though I hated LA I LOVED science! I am hoping CLE turns out to be a keeper. Mostly because I don't know what else to use! lol! I've got everything else ordered and on it's way. We are set to begin January 31st. I am so looking forward to receiving my curriculum! Going to place the order now.

Isn't that the truth! For the most part this year I knew what I wanted in curriculum with the exception of math and science. I LOVE ordering curriculum and get all excited when it gets delivered. I love to skim through everything. I am hoping this math will be a good fit and something I can conitnue with next year so I don't have to figure this out all over again!

Math was so hard for me to choose as well. My DD doesn't grasp math very quickly, but she is loving CLE. It reviews just enough each day that she doesn't have a chance to forget but not so much as to be drill and kill. I am planning on using it next year with both kids if this helps:)

I would order the first two Light Units. The first one is normally review of the previous year, the second one starts with grade level work. I believe this is what I found when I did research on it before buying it. They ship pretty quick, I had the box on my doorstep in a matter of days.

So what did you find out, with your order? Did you order one or two light units? What are your final thoughts?
