So...we're having a few people over for the Superbowl...hubby's a huge Green Bay Fan, and well, his brother is a huge Steelers Fan. It'll be interesting! We're also having my good friend, and another family. We'll be the only ones cheering for Green Bay. But...oh well...the food will be good! So...this is what we're having: Veggie Tray w/ Dip Corn Chips & Salsa Baked Stuff Poblano Peppers Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza Salad (gotta have my veggies!) I think we're having ice cream sundaes for dessert....I might make some cookies, too. The important thing is that nothing takes up too much of my time once the game starts. (already told the wives to not expect me to chit chat during the game because I will be watching it! LOL )
Sounds like a fun evening. We are not football people at my house even though my nephew, Ian, works for one of those strange teams. I think it is called The Blizzard. Arena football or something like that, but we love the superbowl and always watch it and eat lots of goodies during it. We make everyone be still when the commercials come on. As you can tell we are not sports people. (Sorry Ian)
DH isn't a football fan; I've never followed professional football. But, growing up in central Ohio, I grew up watching the Big Ten lose the Rose Bowl every New Year's Day. I also ushered for OSU during my senior year of high school. Only problem was the OSU/Michigan game that year was a home game, and instead of being there, cheering the Buckeyes on, I was sitting in a classroom, taking my ACT test! GRRRRRRR!!!! But, having said all that, we went to Mom's this year to watch the Big Ten lose again. I'm so glad I did, because Mom passed away two days later. We were really able to enjoy that last day we had together!
we don't watch football, but just the super bowl...... this year I"m just making a few quick things for lunch time: we will order pizza for dinner we are going to have: little smokies little tacos pizza bagels and chip and dip
It will be Super Bowl Monday for us. Hubby even has the day off since everyone busted butt on the ship to get their hours in to do so. Our menu is eggs and bacon with hashbrowns and biscuts. OJ and milk and what fruit is the freshest at the mini mart here. Oh and we will be in our PJs. I just hope we get to see the ads and not the military ones we see here. They are are getting old. Maybe that I was I should ask for. Please send copies of the American commercials, we actually miss them
Oh, here's the best commercial ever!!! A friend posted it on FB!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R55e-uHQna0
I only watch football when the Steelers are playing, and I don't get most of their games being that I'm on the west coast. I am making: black and gold tortilla chips salsa guacamole chicken bites veggies and dip mini pizzas and cut fruit It'll just be me and the kids since hubby will be working and I don't know anyone that actually likes football. So my plan is to make all the food before the game and set it out buffet style for everyone to munch on during the game.
My husband is the biggest football fan that ever was which gets really old to me. I like football and all but there is such a thing as overkill and my husband has officially killed it for me. However I will join him in watching the superbowl. I will be rooting for the steelers. We are having: tortilla rollups sausage balls chicken taquitos pizza rollups nachos cold beer and sodas
FINALLY! Was getting worried I would be the only Mom watching the game for a little while there! LOL When I first met hubby he told me he was a football fan. He does not like any other sport, but he LOVES football. He told me I had two choices, join him or find something else to do while football was on. Being young and in love, I chose the former. He took the time to teach me the rules of the game and stuff. He was VERY patient and answered every question, and helped me understand all the nuances of the game. I find that makes a total difference. Now...I LOVE to watch football and have been known to turn on the game and watch it even when he's not here! LOL He's being a good boy - see, his cigar shoppe is hosting a huge party, but he is choosing to stay home with me to watch the game! LOL I can't wait to start cooking!!!!
When I met my dh I was a football fan. I enjoyed watching Monday Night Football very much and when we were dating we'd watch it together. Over time it morphed into a monster! Now it is all day Sunday and I mean from 11am when pregame comes on until the very last play of the very last game on Sunday night, plus Monday night football, plus any possible Thursday games, plus college games when they are on a channel we get. It is insane and now I can barely stand it. It's too much! I dread football season every year. In his defense though he stays home to watch the games and he does do some things around the house while football is on but it MUST be on at all times. If he is outside burning trash for instance and he comes in and it is off he would freak out! He will make calls before the refs do. I told him he is in the wrong business he should have been a pro ref.
I got so mad with dh's family! Like I said, he's not a sports fan AT ALL. But his sister worked for some big, important person that would get the closed, boxed seats at the Blue Jackets (Columbus' hockey team) games. Once a year, she'd get the box, and Carl's brothers, bil, and dad would all go together and watch the game. And once a year they'd go down to see the Reds play baseball. I would have loved to go (more than him!), but it was a guy thing, and I was OK with that. Then comes along my bil with his live-in, not-yet-legally-divorced honey. And SHE gets to go, while I stayed home!!! BOY, was I HOT!!! I'm OK with the guys going, but SHE is NOT a guy, and she's not even FAMILY!!!
My brother in law is one of those people who makes the calls along with or before the ref. He has been known to watch three games at once. We still laugh about him having two small tvs on top of his big one so he didn't miss anything. He actually kept up with all three games too. It was so funny. He is our big sports nut in the family.
We are pro football only....no college. TV is on for all NFL games. We used to have NFL Sunday ticket so we could pick the games....but...changed to Verizon....oh well . All day Sunday, Mon night and Thurs... I cannot complain too much tho b/c it's the only sport he watches. My BILL watches ALL sports ALL the time. That would KILL me!!!
I'm a HUGE Steelers fan. HUGE!!!!!!!!!! My van is completely decorated in Steelers stuff inside and out. But I'm from Pittsburgh, so I have a good excuse. lol. Funny thing is, people often ask me if my husband is a Steelers fan (they assume the van is his doing). And they're always confused when I inform them that he truly, thoroughly hates football. If you're still looking for snacky stuff, I got Black and Gold M&M-type candies at Mr. Bulkies yesterday. They sell the single colors of the 'knock offs' of the M&Ms, or for a little bit more you can get single colored Jelly Bellies.
All this talk has me hungry. We are going to a friends house and I am bringing a fruit salad. The boys will be all over the tv, while the girls will be scrapbooking/crafting. The kids are at grandparents. It will be a lot of fun. Everyone enjoy the game and good times with family and friends.
Amie, I like you even more now! LOL! I too am a huge Steelers fan, and from Pittsburgh. What I love about being a Steelers fan in Arizona is that I am NOT in the minority. There are a TON of Steelers fans over here! I will be having a quiet party at home with the kids, hubby has to work unfortunately (thank you millions of advertising dollars for Bob Parson's super bowl commercials)
Oh, I'm absolutely not in the minority here, either. Matter of fact, in our church of 200 there is another family from The Burgh. lol. I have a Steelers purse and was stopped twice at the Mall the other night by ladies who wanted to know where I got it. Both were also Pittsburgh transplants. lol. Our church is having a SB party tomorrow, so it should be fun. That is, if we can get out of our driveway with all the extra snow.
Party at Church sounds great! Wish my church had thought of that Oh well, I'll be having fun at home with my snacks and my boys. Ironically they couldn't care less about the actual game, but tell me all the time that they like the Steelers LOL.
We'll be going to a church family party to watch the commercials. The invite actually says to bring board games and stuff to play. We don't follow football here. Dh is a hunting/fishing guy--PTL!!! We'd all much rather play a sport than watch it. Anyway, with the recent blizzard and the distance from any grocery store, I'm trying to figure out what to take to the party based on what I have on hand. Help!!! I have excess of 1) apple sauce, 2) imitation lobster (shush now, I got it on clearance! HAHAHA), 3) bread, 4) zucchini, and...uh...5) acorn squash. Any ideas??? And I'm out of sour cream....sigh....
