Anyone have any suggestions for back pain? I should have it mastered by now because I've lived with it long enough but the things that used to work for me are proving useless right now. Robaxacet Platinum isn't touching it, heat feels good but lasts only for a short time (not long enough for me to be able to work tonight), Advil and Tylenol both are useless so far. I am going to make an appointment for a massage therapist hoping that will help and maybe even acupuncture but both take time to get in to. I know that stress is a direct factor in how I'm feeling right now and as much as I would LOVE to reduce it, some of it I have no control over so I deal with it as best I can. Any ideas??
Have you considered a chiropractor? I had pain for months and a chiropractor stopped the pain on the first visit. Now I go every two weeks and he keeps it away.
I haven't tried either but I'm thinking it's past time to do so (I've missed 2 days of work because of the limited mobility/pain). I'm thinking given the abundance of excitement right now, the massage therapy might do me a world of good to help me relax
Is this lower back pain? I did physical therapy for my lower back around 8 years ago. I went for a few months and have never had to go back. The therapists show you how to treat any flare-ups yourself at home. Regardless of where in your back the pain is, I'd recommend applying moist heat. The therapist and my doctor both said to use a damp towel between your back and a heating pad. If it's your lower back, some stretches can help; however, I won't do a long post on those just in case your pain is elsewhere. These won't do much good for mid to upper back pain.
It's all in my lumbar spine radiating into my right leg on occasion (sciatica). I went to see my doctor and he prescribed Flexeril for me so I can go back to work tomorrow night (the LAST thing I want is to have anything to do with worker's compensation - they're hard on the head). And then the massage.... I know it isn't a pleasant experience but if it works the kinks out sooner than later then it's all worth it.
I have two bulging discs. The doctor is weaning off of pain meds. I've been on them long enough they no longer help at all. I have found ice to actually give more relief than heat. More than likely you have inflammation which is why heat only gives a "feels good" sensation for a minute. The ice will actually deaden the nerve. It helps me most when the sciatic nerve gets pinched. Walking it off also helps a lot. I just started physical therapy with the understanding I will be getting an ESI injection in my back if PT doesn't help a bunch. Totally sucks.
Have u tried Alieve? My husband has several fractured vertebrea and is on moraphine and Methadone.. His pain specialist also told him to take Alieve.. Hubby says he can tell a big difference when he doesn't take it.. As for the chiropractor, I have heard it works for most people, however it did NOT work for my husband.. It made things worse.. Edited to say that we tried the chiropractor BEFORE we knew he had the fractures.. There's a chance the chiropractor may have actually caused the issues hubby has to become worse... He didn't take xrays :/
I'm scared to go to a chiropractor because all I've ever heard are the horror stories. I had 2 really good days this week and then I pushed a (broken) grocery cart this morning and so I'm feeling it today but I'm hopeful that when I take the Flexeril at bedtime it will help again. Crossing my fingers that I can go back to work on Monday morning and function normal (or bare it enough to get through the shift and no one know the difference).
