Surely not everybody is on vacay.... There's been NOthing here for 3 days! When I came on today, I noticed that there were 5 "names" listed in the "who's reading" that looked VERY suspicious to me...
I still poke in from time to time but I'm not on as much as usual (back to work and excitement around here keeps me 'entertained')
I've noticed that, too, Lindina. Been crickets for a few days. I've been in the pool. LOL. Just got the darned thing opened, have been vacuuming up bugs and balancing chemicals for a week! Maybe it's just summer getting busy? Dunno.
I thought maybe everyone had left! I still come here to check up on everyone and lately it looked like I was at the wrong spot. (Spot, get it, I made a funny!) Sigh... Okay, back to laundry folding!
I suppose when you think about it...a home school site is going to be less busy during summer break, no? I mean, if it were fall and no one were showing up...that would be a little more troubling, but summer just went into full swing, and right before the 4th of July. It's a good guess most people are vacationing and traveling and visiting and making the most of NOT thinking about school!
Hi! Im a newbie here but been homeschooling for 2 years now. My ds is going imto 2nd grade. To me personally his "summer vacation" is my major prep for the next year. Lol. I just found this site and posted the other day and was kinda shocked how dead it is here. Glad to see maybe it is because its summer. I love getting thimgs ready for the next year over summer. I dont have my son all over me in our school roo, and im not teaching new lessons. I like to make a lot of things for our classroom to help save money. So laminator is my best friend right now. Lol. Printing , laminating and bimding our own easy readers.
My kids had VBS last week (both AM and PM sessions) and Prep Week the week before. Plus my bil is temporarily staying with us (which is a long story in itself!). I'm taking off to Kentucky tomorrow with a college friend to visit someone we knew back then. I'm around, but only kinda!
I'm around. We actually don't vacation until September. I've been checking in a few times a day, but certainly not much action. Deep in planning/prep for next year, too. Everyone's schedules are almost done....we start August 11th....eeek. Our pool got wifi so, I can use my ipad there and check in on the spot... We need to get a fire going!
I'm on several homeschool groups on Facebook, and they are burning it up busy! TONS of newbies, both curriculum specific and general boards. And that keeps the vets busy answering questions, posting links, making recommendations...
I cant beileve its taken me so long to find this. I mean I know im not the only one who home schools. But I guess I didnt think of their to be forums and fb pages for us. Do you mind sharing some of the other sites like forums or fb pages I could check out. Going into 2nd grade I know each year comes with new changes and new challenges and if I coukd connect with other people even if its on the cyber levek that would be amazing!
Just go to FB and "search" like you would for people, with the word homeschool homeschooling or the name of your favorite curriculum publisher, and I'm sure you'll turn up dozens. Most of mine are closed groups, so you have to click on "join" and wait to be added. It's not that I don't want to tell you which mine are, but I don't know which ones might suit you. I have one that's for grandparents, one for special needs kids, one for my state, two that are curriculum-specific, one for newbies/thinking about it, and one that is region-of-my-state specific whose members are a co-op IRL. It's hopeful to me that there are SO many newbies who are pulling their kids specifically because of Common Core, each with their own public school horror stories. In addition to those who just feel that it's best for their families on general principles.
I haven't been on here in MONTHS!! Between work and church I've been super busy. It's almost time for school to start back up again so I'll be popping back in more often.
