Ok.. I am at a loss at what to do for music. I have thought about those teach yourself piano online for free things... but I'm not sure that is what I want to do. I am pretty much music illiterate.. I can sing with my favorite CD but that's about it..lol. What have you guys used that you liked or disliked? In my freecycle score I thought I had a good music book, but it is just games and I would have to have a pretty good knowledge of notes and things.. and so would Garrett..lol. Help please ETA: I should mention last year all we did was listen to music on the radio or on cd's..lol.
Sommer- join the club! I got BJUP music for grade one. Some lessons I had to skip because I simly cant read music. music patterns, high and low notes, comparing the rhythm of the words versus the melody, all that I could do. That was less than half the book, though.
Take a look at this. Maybe it will help you. http://www.freshpond.net/uploads/users/5/User_5961/MyFiles/index.html
haha.. that lost me.. I don't sort through things the best..lol. I was just looking at Hayes' Let's Learn Music
http://www.harmonyfinearts.com/ Harmony Fine Arts http://www.musicforlittlemozarts.com/classroom/home.html Music for little Mozarts http://www.colortheclassics.com/ color the classics http://www.beethovenswig.com/ We also like the music cd's Beethovens Wig. http://www.christianbook.com/Christ...earch&N=0&Ne=0&event=ESRCN&nav_search=1&cms=1 What about the recorder or harmonica? http://store.musicbasics.com/baspianbas.html For piano there is Bastien Piano Basics Coloring books of great composers or there are several books on composers. http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=16908&event=CF A book called Meet the Great Composers, which is good.
Recorder is a fairly easy thing to start music with! I have a cd that tells what to do and a book that goes with it, and a couple recorders......... Oh hey, if you want them, I could sell them to you for not very much. My kids have not used them for some time now.
Deena I pm'd you.. Nellie you are like the link queen in this place..lol You are seriously my idol! I'm going now to check out those sites! Thanks guys!
is there a old retire music teacher around that is where I take my girls for 1 hour week and it's not so bad. It's about 20 a hour and they get there lesson there. We have done the free on line one and my girls love it..
Kris.. you know what's weird.. the town we live in is very small.. the majority of the town itself is low income people.. we live in the country and are surrounded by doctors.. as is most of the outer areas of the town (we have a very large hospital in our little town)... anyway, you would think there would be ton's of things for these doctors kids to do.. but there isn't!! I would love a Karate studio, and a music teacher, maybe a gymnastics place for dd when she is older.. but there are none!! There are 3.. yes 3 dance schools and someday I'm sure my dd will go to one, but my boys are not learning ballet unless it is over dh's dead body..lol.
We have been using Alfred's basic piano course and one for guitar as well. I do read music pretty well but. . .my dd has been doing the piano on her own and is progressing very nicely. Everything sounds kind of like it's supposed to. . .kind of. . .and she really understands some basics in music theory. I find it very simple but that's good. We've also done recorder but it was too hard for us LOL I would also suggest simply listening and/or studying the lives of composers is a pretty good start. My babysitter who is the music guru of all time (and actually doesn't give my kids piano lessons--how did that happen?) says that before the age of 8, most kids do well just to 'explore' the realm of music. She was the one who really encouraged us to go ahead and let them try out 10 different instruments if they wanted (e-bay was great for this), to just let them make up songs and kind of learn how things worked.
Deena tried to PM you back but your box is full.. what's your paypal..lol Nellie.. I love music, tried for years to learn to read it..but never was able to I did teach myself to play the keyboard, but I would have to sit down with the sheet music and write down the letters and go by written letters to play
Money sent Deena.. I think we will play with the recorders this year, and also use some of the books and cd's listed in the Harmony Fine Arts music curricululm...
I'm teaching dd piano, I have no idea about an actual music program though. She'll be starting children's choir at church in the fall and with the piano she's learning all the theory and everything there so she's getting what she needs. I'm also going to start introducing a different compose every couple of weeks along with type of music that compser wrote. She already knows about different instruments because music is a very big part of our house. If you want to teach piano I HIGHLY recoomend this publisher. http://pianoteaching.com/ and the link for the videos http://pianoteaching.com/guide/contents.html even has free videos online for teaching proper technique and whatnot. Not sure what age you are looking for but we finished "My First Piano Adventures" a month ago and dd loved it- she's 6. The books are very easy to follow- even someone with no music experience can teach from these using the videos on the website.
We like Music Ace Deluxe (CD program) by Harmonic Vision for beginning music. For music appreciation, we have used Color the Classics and Scholastics series of books about famous musicians and composers.
http://www.amazon.com/Hearing-Music...4509?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1183118231&sr=8-3 A friend of mine has this. Though there are lots of cdrom games for music.
