My name is Dawn, and I'm a homeschooling mom of one daughter, age 13. We have completed our 7th year of homeschooling, and I'm looking forward to finishing one more year of middle school, plus the high school years. I hope to learn, as well as contribute
Welcome, Dawn! I'm Jackie from central Ohio. My oldest is also a 13YO girl. We've had lots of talk about middle/high school kids lately! Feel free to jump right in!
Hi Jackie, I'm from northeast Pennsylvania. It's a tough state to homeschool in, but I have found some great support here. I also advise newbies in their quest, as well as those who seek to denigrate what we do. Most folks come around to our way of thinking, with the exception of the rare one or two who dig their heels in against homeschooling.
Welcome, I'm Ohio Grandma, from, you guessed it Ohio - I have a gs that will be starting 7th grade in the fall and a gd -3 year old to do some "school" too.
Hi Dawn! I'm Sommer.. and I am also in Northeast PA!! We live in the small town of Danville, or well out in the country but that is our zipcode..lol. You should consider yourself a seasoned professional by now..lol. We are just starting our second year after pulling our oldest out of ps after 1st grade. I will fight tooth and nail to keep my kids home from now on. Oh yeah.. in our area there aren't many homeschoolers.. well there are but most are Amish or Mennonite... but everyone we tell that we homeschool is super impressed.
Hi Sommer, I'm in Saylorsburg, which is a very small town. LOL, most of my friends have told me they consider me a professional teacher at this point! I removed my dd from public school when she was in 1st grade. It was a difficult decision, but was best for her well-being. Now we're at the point of enrolling her in one of the diploma programs. My personal preference is Buxmont, as I know several graduates from there.
Hi Mrs. B. I'm Tiffany from the Houston area. We will begin our second year of hs'ing in the fall. I have two girls ages 4 1/2 & 11. Nice to have you here!
Do you know where Promised Land State Park is? That's where we're going to be camping! Next Saturday, we're going to French Creek for one week, then will arrive on the 22nd at Promised Land. I spent a summer working at a camp in Honesdale area, and fell in love with the area!
Promised Land is about an hour away from us. It's funny you should mention French Creek. My dd's 4-H group went insect collecting there two weeks ago with the Entomological Society of PA. She's a student member of the society, and they get to collect in state parks. Unfortunately, they didn't get to visit the Hopewell Furnace site. Have fun on your trip
I know where Saylorsburg is! We were just down that way in May to go to Easton to the Crayola Factory! You are lucky to live arround that area, there seems to be alot to do arround there
I hope you were up my way. The Blue Ridge flea market on Saturday and Sunday is small, but awesome! True, there's lots to do. I'm looking forward to our county fair, which is coming up the end of August. It's great to be in a rural area, yet close enough to get to the big cities easily.
