A friend of mine was using "My Father's World" with her preK and K kids. She raves about it and it seems to be good for a group.

Wow, I guess I've been gone for a while! Hi! I'm Trish from S.W. Indiana. I just completed my first year of homeschooling. I will have dd1 in 9th grade, dd2 in 7th, and ds in 5th. DS is not dyslexic, but does have some reversal issues. We will be using Christian Liberty Academy (CLASS) for high school. (with our own supplements)

I really love Christian Liberty :D. I see it as a curriculum we will use throughout. I do supplement in the reading department. Poppet is an avid reader and can go through their readers in no time flat. We started going through the Junie B. Jones series by Barbara Park last year, and will continue that on into third grade (these are her favorite books ).

Other books you might want to check out for Poppet (rec. by my girls!):

A to Z Mysteries by Ron Roy

Mandie Books (historical Christian fiction) These are a little harder than Junie B. Jones; if they're a little much, there's also a "Young Mandie" set.

"Little House on the Prarie" also has a series of Young Readers that my youngest read. The content is straight from the Little House books, but each book is "themed"...animal stories, Christmas stories, friendship, hard times, etc. The books are shorter, and so Faythe was more willing to "try" them. Back when she needed more confidence in reading, I would have her read a page, then I would read a page.

Thanks, Jackie :D! I have never heard of the Mandie books. Poppet is a very good reader. She reads and comprehends well above her grade level. My mom brought my sisters and I up to really love reading, and I think that I have managed to pass this on to her. This makes me feel wonderful .

    Hi - Newbie Here!

Hi everyone! I just stumbled upon this site and I'm so glad! My husband and I have been married for 20yrs. and homeschooling for 15. We have 7 children, (5 girls, 2 boys) ages 19, 16, 12, 8, 7, 4 and 2. The youngest 2 are my boys. :)

We are currently living in Illinois, but have plans to move to Arkansas where we have some land and would like to build a home and have a small farm. (The Lord willing, "....and if the creek don't rise.")

We have used so many different curriculums over the years. I think I have tried new things each year. Last year was pretty much a "Mix and Match" kind of thing. But this year I am looking toward doing mainly Unit Studies, with a lot of reading, writing and reporting for my 16yr. old.

I'm so looking forward to getting started again this year! I think my kids are too. The excitement of summer break seems to die down in our house soon after July 4th.
    :D

Welcome to our site! We call it our *site* because Amanda is gracious and leaves us alone most of the time, so we feel like we can just *suit ourselves* here.

I am Tina and live in south Texas. I have 3 boys, 10yo, 8yo and 5yo and this is my 6th year homeschooling and we love every minute of it.

I went to a later convention this year and bought some new stuff for this year so I can't wait to get started this week....

I most school throughout the summer.. We cut back some, but its sooooo hot here in Texas 8) that we prefer to stay inside so why not school  then outside in the fall for when the weather drops below 101 degrees

And anyone who can hs 7 children plus have my kudos... Crystal here has about the same amount plus she is expecting another....

A lot of us have been coming here for a while, and we just love new company. The more the merrier :D

Again welcome here and hopefully we can all help each other to get our year started back again .

    Blessings

Hello! I'm an IL native myself....I'm currently in captivity in the land of Iowa  . Nice to have you here!

I have a 9yo ds and 6yo dd. We are ecclectic with our curriculum choices and we are very relaxed in our work. It's getting more structured as time goes on, but I'm being dragged into it kicking and screaming  .

    Hope you like it here!

WOW!!! You sure got a crew!!! I've a hs'ing friend with 9, ranging from 19 to 4. Girl-boy all the way down the line. She even had a set of twins, one girl and one boy, LOL! I think your fifteen years got just about everyone here beat! We sure will be interested in gleaning from your experience! I'm Jackie, and I'm starting my seventh formal year, though I considred myself a hs'er even when my first-born came and I was working (teaching) full-time. I was blessed with a mother who watched my daughter four days, and a MIL who took her the fifth. My mom had to work full-time when I was growing up. I think she used her DGD as an excuse to stay home, and have all the fun she missed out on when my brother and I were young. And you know my DD couldn't have had better care than Grandma! When my second one came (DD), I quit my job. Mom complained that she'd miss Rachael so much, and volunteered to watch them both just one day a week. So I would sub just one day a week! Gave me a chance to "get out" and make a little extra money. But when I became pregnant with #3 (DS), I knew it was time to come home completely. Besides, Rachael was five then, and I was beginning to HS in earnest. Boy!!! Didn't mean to be so long! I also have two adult DSS's. But THAT is another story!!!

We love every mintue of it.

I am from South Texas and boy is it hot down here like Tina we do start school down here in the summer and then in the fall when we want a day off to enjoy the nice weather we take it. To hot to do anything down here in the day time so might as well homeschool and keep the girls busy.

Can't wait to hear more from you, I bet you have alot of ideas for us.

    Hi there,

We've been running and going so much, that I'm just popping in now and then, so am missing some threads, at least for awhile...

We'll be starting our 8th year of homeschooling after we get back from our mission trip. I LOVE homeschooling--not every single day or hour, but overall I am just thrilled with the opportunity to be with and teach my own children! I have ds14--10th grade, ds 11 (almost 12)--7th grade, and dd 8--4th grade.

My oldest went to K and 1st at a local Christian school, then I started homeschooling, so the other two have never been to school other than our own homeschool. I LIKE that! :D Like She's little guy, K was just too easy for my 2nd and 3rd children, so they continued on and did K and 1st in one year. My oldest did not like that he hadn't gotten to skip a grade, so when he was in 6th grade he told me he wanted to skip a grade. I told him it would be a lot of work, and I didn't think it was necessary, so I wouldn't remind him and push him to finish. If he really wanted to do that, it would be up to him to put the effort into it. I would support him in his effort, just not nag him to get stuff done. It meant enough to him that he DID put forth that effort, and finished 3 grades in two years. So that's where they stand now. I just think it's neat, cuz they loved being able to work hard and get that stuff done. It was a real confidence booster for them! They couldn't have done that in ps! They are working well in the grades they are in, so it must've been what they needed to do.

ANYWAY, we have fun with homeschooling. People ask us a lot if we're going to keep homeschooling our children the next year, or through highschool. We just take it a year at a time, and pray about it.

I've really enjoyed being on this site with these ladies! I've learned a lot, and have been able to share some, and having conversations with adults is nice too!

Welcome, I hope you stick around!!!

    Welcome to Homeschool Spot!
We've got a bunch of "old regulars" but it's so nice to see & meet all these new people too! I hope you enjoy it here.

My name is Heidi- I'm a stay-at-home-homeschooling-mom to 2 girls.......
Ashley is 11 and starting 6th grade, Gracie is 5 and starting 1st grade.
We are about to start our 5th year of "formal" homeschooling.
    We live in south-central PA.

We are becoming much more eclectic in our approach to homeschooling; and, like Deena said, although not every day is "great", we are loving the homeschooling experience!

I look forward to getting to know you better,
