I forget the whole speech, but the gist was that Catholics have the only real way to get to Heaven. All other religions are phony, he basically said.
Well, the ONLY to Heaven is through Jesus and so however each person interprets it isn't as much the issue as long as they make the choice to follow Jesus (does that sound right??). And the flip side is that each religion says that their religion is the only religion worth consdering and the only way to heaven... we know the difference. We only serve one God and He alone is the way to Heaven.
The comment so surprises me, because there are so many layers to that religion. You go through so much before Jesus even comes into it. His earthly mother gets more p.r. than He does, so it seems to me. My first husband was a Catholic, one of those Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday ones. Even his priest smoked and cursed.
I was upset by catholics until I realized they didn't believe in science. Now I can't keep a straight face whenever I see the pope.
I must've missed this too. Was he speaking about Catholics as having the only true way, or about Christians? There are a lot of things about Catholocism I don't agree with, including their "p.r." of Mary... and of praying to the saints and that sort of thing. BUT, I do still believe they're going to heaven. There *IS* only one true way to heaven, and that's through Jesus Christ. Catholics have it. I'm not Catholic, but I have it too. SO I guess i can't *REALLY* comment until I know what he said. LOL I'll go yahoo/google it....
I will humbly ask that all of you please keep the comments regarding Catholicism to a minimum. We (dh, dd and I) are strong Catholics that love our faith. I have never judged other religious viewpoints on this board and I would like to expect the same. If I do not agree with your viewpoint, then I will respectfully keep my opinions to myself. To point out a specific religion and begin to bash it is not why I joined this board. Catholicism is 2000 years old that is full of history and tradition. To someone who was not brought up in the Catholic faith or did not go through Cathechism, it would be harder to understand the faith on face value alone. Again, I really enjoy participating in this board so please do not judge my faith that I love dearly. Keep in mind, I have never judged any of your beliefs so please respect mine. This is not what this board is for. If there is another Catholic comment, I will leave this forum. How would any of you feel if I just started a thread bashing YOUR faith???
If you had not had any Catholic formation at all you would not understand this. If you had you would think differently. Why bring this up if you have no idea??? Don't gauge Catholicism by one person (your ex). So much before Jesus comes into it???????? Apparently you have no concept of the faith. This shows that you dont know, so please do not judge Catholicism, you have it all wrong.....
