I'm sorry for hopw the Pope Thread went. I truly, absolutely only meant to discuss why he might think the way he does. Whoever I made mad, I apologize.

    Pope thread

As a devout Catholic I accept your apology. I dont think that as a homeschool forum that we should discuss specific religions, faiths or beliefs. I would never point out a specific preacher, evanglist, ect and critique their teachings, that just really does not belong here. I love being Catholic, but I would never impose my beliefs on someone who has a different faith. Most of us are Christians who love the Lord and Jesus so maybe we should just stick with that. Thank you for your apology, it takes a big person to do that and there are no hard feelings! If you however have any questions or are curious (I know I am regarding other religions! I just love learning about other faiths!) about something in the Catholic faith, please feel free to ask.

    Becky, you are alright!
I used to be a devout Catholic but am now a born again Christian. I know you didn't mean anything unkind.
I think it is more then alright to discuss our faith and religion on this site because for many, we homeschool with a Christian emphasis. I know I homeschool for religious reasons. It is hard to leave this out. We also have a Christian section for a reason. But I agree that we can't bash others religions and I don't think you were doing this in the least. You didn't understand something and were asking what we thought. What others posted is not in your control.
I think, and I may be wrong, Amy posted this thread to reel us in before things got nasty because they can. She pointed out something important and I am thankful!;)

I actually wanted to get everyone's input on Jerry Fallwell, but just kept forgetting! Nope- you can't look down on what someone believes, because it's their choice. With the Pope, I just hope he was quoted incorrectly.

Who is Jerry Fallwell? I have heard of him but do not know who he is?

I also second pulling the thread if at all possible.

I have heard of Jerry Fallewell, but I do not know of his teachings. Dh and I often listen to Joel Olsteen. He is a really great Christian Motivational speaker!

Amy, first I want to thank you for posting this and reminding everyone..

Second, I don't want to take side, but being on the board as long as I have and talking as much as I have, I don't think Becky, meet anything to become of it.. I think she was just asking a simple question... Knowing Becky, she proabaly feels bad about it know.. but it was a good question...

Bugsmommy, I am sorry it upset you, I hope you don't get mad... I don't really think Becky was pointing a finger at anyone, it was just something she seen and wanted to know what every one else felt about it.. I have many and I mean many family members whom are catholic and grew up with many catholic friends... we all are the same no matter which way we choice to go... I hope you continue to stay on the board and let it drop.. you are a wonderful lady and I love to read what you have to say abou things. We love you...

AAwwww Kris! You are such a sweetie!! I know Becky was just asking a question, but the other posts got kinda icky kwim?? I would have hated to see something ugly start on account of someone asking a question. I really really enjoy this board and I think the world of all of you!!
God Bless you guys!!!

Btw~I havent read yet what the Pope has said (kinda crazy round here lately!), but when I do if anyone has a question I would be more that happy to answer, and if I dont know I have a ton of places I could find the answer!!

Ok, I'm glad that this thread has gotten some things straitened out. My computer and phone have been out and the whole town and surrounding town that has this service just got it back up.

I know when it comes to religion we all have our personal views and they are very strong to some. I wouldn't want to see any one leave or be hurt over a particular thread and I am glad that we are all civilized enough to be kind to each other and perhaps occasionally it takes a little set back to make us all aware that no matter what faith we hold in our heart we are all here to support each other.

And I'll tell you that as a modorator I can see when a new person tries to post a new theread and it dumb founds me that they almost always try to post something in the Chritian issues sub tittle...... only to get a "you can't do that message". ---- then they go a way. But those TROLLS know that posting here would stir the pot. I think that all of our regular members and most of the new ones really genuinly come here for support and I'm so glad that this is such a friendly place to come!

Just for laughs want to hear what I almost did...

This morning as I reading the posts, I thought I would try to give some perspective (because I was raised in the Catholic church) but then as I was typing away I thought... no way, not going to touch this because I don't and didn't understand it enough to do any good justice to them.

Praise the Lord (in hind sight) that something inside me said not to reply to the topic or I would have unintentionally stirred quite a mess.

On a side note... I think that all religions - whatever they may be are fascinating... maybe not within my line of thinking but neat just the same...

This is totally off topic but when I first saw the thread title I thought it said "Genital Reminder" and giggled for like 5 minutes.

I thought that, too, Euph!!! I really did.

Jerry Fallwell was a preacher that recently passed away. Back in the late 80's he came out with a statement that the purple TeleTubby represented gay people because it carried a pocketbook. That Christmas, Ollie's advertised all the Teletubbies- 3ft tall ones. I went to buy them for 5 month old Kevin. Well, they didn't have the purple one!! The clerk said it was because of the gay thing. I talked to the manager and laid them out. I said it is my choice of whether or not to purchase that toy, not theirs. Well, Ollie's gets their stuff from various places, and those TTs came from a store in the mid west. That store wouldn't carry the purple one, so when they shipped the overstock to Ollie's, it didn't include the purple one. Jerry Fallwell was a lot of hot air.
