Hi all! I am new to the board (thanks to those who answered my post about God's World News and gave me a welcome). I am still trying to figure out the board (and learn all of ya)- one question: when you go to post ON a topic, are you supposed to put anything in the subject line, and if you do, where does it print out in your post??

Anyway, I have 3 children, all boys, ages 10, 8 and 5. This is our 5th year homeschooling and we love it! I am a "curriculum-aholic"- which makes for full bookshelves and a wish-list a mile long. I am improving- I decided for my kindergartner this fall NOT to buy a whole kit- I have plenty of things to use, and I think kindergarten is a "hand-on" year anyway. A friend of mine went to a "discard" sale by the school district in the city I used to live in yesterday and got me a whole set of encyclopedias- from 1990- for free! I am totally excited! She said she hopes I was serious about wanting some books because she filled the back of her Subaru! I can't wait! Our town's library is pretty great- I just checked out Hooked on Phonics level 1 for 2 weeks!! I use Christian Liberty for the bulk of my curriculum. About me, I like to cross-stitch, read, cook, and have become quite the "sports Mom"- the kids have already done basketball, soccer, baseball, golf and are just finished with swim lessons. Flag football starts in two weeks...

Well, be patient with me as I learn how to use a board like this, and I look forward to "meeting" y'all.

    Welcome!

    momx3~
Welcome to Homeschool Spot. I was glad you had asked about God's World News because I was considering subscribing this year as well. Last year we did the Scholastic News and we had alot of delivery issues with them (they were very kind to deal with on the phone, but it was just frustrating).
Anyway, I'm Heidi from PA, and I have 2 daughters that I homeschool. Ashley is 11 and in 6th grade, Gracie is 5 and in 1st grade.
It sounds like we have alot in common- I love books, curriculum, school supplies- you name it- my husband just cringes when I come home with another box or bag of stuff! Just today I got a new storage unit thingy!
I'm sure you'll enjoy it here at Homeschool Spot- there's a great bunch of ladies here- and we all learn alot from each other.
    Enjoy,

P.S. In answer to your question about the subject line.......
if you decide to enter a different subject (from the original post) in the subject line, you can do so. It will appear in the top line of the post- beside the date and time.

I am Brooke from IA....well, I'm from IL and trying to get used to living in hubby's homestate. Anyway, this is our second consecutive year of homeschooling, although we did a short stint in 1st grade after we pulled ds out of public school...the first time  .

I have a 9yo son and 6yo daughter. We are pretty relaxed with our schedule. We use Math-U-See for both kids' math, dd uses Explode the Code for phonics and we are going to try something new for ds for language arts this year. We have Considering God's Creation for Science that I think we will try to do this year now that dd is getting a bit older. We also have Mystery of History waiting in the wings...we'll see when we use it. I want to wait on those things until both kids can benefit from them at the same time.

Welcome aboard! I still can't get over how many new people we have!!! This is so cool! 8)

    Hi Ya'll,

    WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME!!! :D

This will be our 8th year of homeschooling. I have ds-14, ds-11 and dd-8. I LOVE homeschooling and this group of ladies! When I started out with my oldest we did Christian Liberty Academy, but now we're fairly eclectic. We still use CLA for Bible, but also A Beka for science (my kids really like their science!) and Spelling, Alpha Omega for math, Rod and Staff for English/Grammar, The Story of the World and Activity Book (and many other books!) for History, my youngest will be doing Spanish, my middle ds begged for Greek (he wants to be a pastor when he grows up), so I got one made for children from www.greeknstuff.com (they have Latin also), and my oldest is doing German now! They all take piano, my middle ds also takes cello, and my dd takes violin. Oh, my dd doesGetty-Dubay handwriting (she loves it!), and my boys did (the 11-yo is still doing it) A Reason For Handwriting (he loves it!). See? Pretty eclectic---but it works for us, so that's what we use! :D

Glad to see you all here!!!

Howdy and welcome! Hope you enjoy the site, I am a newbie too. Everyone gives a warm welcome and this is a very interesting forum.

We have been homeschooling for 10 years, two boys 14 and 16. They are actually in the same grade because our youngest wanted to follow his brother in K so he started K at a young age and has done very well.

    Welcome! :D

Jackie here! Am starting Year 7 of this adventure! I've three DCs...DD11, DD9, and DS5. We use a little bit of everything. "Considering God's Creation" for Science, "Mystery of History" for history, Horizions Math for my younger ones, and Saxon for the older (though this year, DH wants me to use an algebra book the public schools was discarding...but that's another whole post!) We're in Ohio!

My younger one was one grade ahead of what he would be in school, and my oldest didn't like that, so he worked extra hard the next year so he could skip a grade so his brother wouldn't be so close grade-wise. He'd NEVER stand for his brother being in the same grade!!! :D
