Everyone seems all anxious to get back to school. Isn't anyone else enjoying a break? I'm getting everything ready while Jeanne is gone each day at camp or whatever, but I'm also looking forward to the weeks in August we'll still have off. Lol-I'm luxuriating in these lighter days!
This is exactly why we're going year round. I like my breaks too much! I love the 3 week/1week schedule!
We are schooling but just a few days a week. What I call laided back but still working. It seems if we don't the kids forget too much. I could tell the boys were forgetting important things. LOL We have already been off 2 months. I also need to stay on top of things as hubby may get down again or have another surgery and we would be out of school due to it. LORNA
Well first I don't consider summer here all that enjoyable. It's hot and humid. Dd is very sensitive to the heat so even if it's only 80 something and very humid, we don't go out. But normally it's in the 90's and humid. We actually finished school beginning of May for this reason. Finished nice and early so we could enjoy summer things without dealing with the crowds of tourists, and we'll be taking a break in Oct/Nov for a few 3 and 4 day weekends to go camping- when it's actually comfortable to do so lol. We're still doing summer things though. We go swimming, meet with friends, ect. So it's not like all we're doing is school.
I'm just really excited that it's finally here. I've been planning this first year for nearly a year already...lol. It's all I could do to wait this long to start. Now, ask me again in three weeks or so, and I might be really dang ready for our next break:wink:
We are enjoying the summer, but have found that we school every single day, with something. Elijah wouldn't go back to school if it were up to him, but of course, we must. Gianna wants to "do" school everyday with books. Me, I'm relaxing after all that remodeling.
I know how you feel, Becky. I like to have as much summer as we can. Unfortunately, since my kids are going back to school this year, we miss out on some of our break. They go back August 15. They will have to start getting up at 6:00 am and be ready for the bus by 7 am (well my ds does...dd gets on the bus at 8 am). Anyway, I told them next week we are going to start going to bed earlier and getting up earlier, then the week after after even earlier...to get us prepared for the new changes.
We enjoy the summer.. but really want to take 3 weeks off at Christmas and Birthday season, and also each week that has a major holiday in it (Thanksgiving, Easter, etc) we take off the whole week. So we will be starting on Aug. 6th so we can have off all the time we want. We did School through most of last years Christmas/Birthday season and it was hard! It is a challenge with 1 Christmas time Birthday in a family.. we have 3! soooo we have decided to make sure we have plenty of time to focus on them.
This is the first week of summer that we didn't do anything at all. Next week I want Jeanne to do some little review stuff, and go that way until we start back up the last week of August. I know I wish I had all this planning time when I need it!
Leslie- I'm thinking of having Jeanne get up at 6 each day, so we can start earlier. This past year was a drag trying to get as much done as we could before leaving for classes. Of course, that would mean m getting up at 5, so we'll see if it actually pans out!
I know...that's the tough part. We like our sleep an awful lot!! That will be one of our biggest struggles.
I can't seem to get us motivated to start our school day any earlier than 10. It's hard when my husband doesn't leave for work until at least 930. My boys don't even get up out of bed before 830...!! I am an early bird, though. I am usually up before 7. My ideal sleep time would be 11-630...I would LOVE to have kids up, breakfast, chores, and school going by 9 but I have always had trouble with that...
I am totaly enjoying the break!~ I have been working hard even though the kids are off, the lack of responsiblity is awesome! I have been planning off and n for fall, but as soon as I feel stressed I take a breather and go someplace! This week we are swimming at a bigger pool thatn normal, and it will be fun! has diving boards and laps to swim in and more shallow water than most places I think. I still want to camp at the beach but have to find the right weekend here to sneak away with us all... other wise I iwll hit the middle of the week with just the kids.
I am enjoying the summer but am ready to return to regular school days! We have reviewed from time to time but not as much as I planned. I am still working on the exact day to begin. The time off has allowed for me to make many crafts that I will sell before Thanksgiving. I am thinking that we might take off three more weeks and then kick into gear. I don't know, maybe it will be two.:| Patty
We all get up at 6 here. I am NOT a morning person, but our day DOES run so much smoother! We've been doing that for two years now.
