Okay, I made it through the first trip to Wal Mart with my driving teen! He is doing his practice driving, once he does the things on his list comfortably we will send him out with instructor again. He did okay but it seemed like he was driving faster than he was. He takes corners too fast, I told him he needs to inch through them in our neighborhood especially. Anyone have any tips for a mom?
I don't even want to think about it. I agree with Kayla - COVER YOUR EYES. I think I will make dh take Elijah out when it is time, or he just won't get his license until he is 50. ROFL
You can pray! Our oldest drives beautifully and always has. She is very considerate of those around her. I felt safe when I was with her. Now, the middle daughter!!!! To this day, I will not drive in a car with her. She has the attitude that nothing will happen to her. She came to visit and drove us to dinner. This was the last time I have gotten in a car with her. I thought that perhaps she slowed down but she is still fast as ever. We will not allow her to drive Ems anywhere. So, no advise from this end except pray!lol Patty
I agree with the ladies pray, pray, pray and keep praying, I also agree with Ohiograndma I am having dh take my girls out not me.. My oldest I don't worry, my youngest has this no fear thing if you know what I mean.. We are going to do drivers ed in a box.
It will be nice when he can drive, mostly for long trips to give us a third driver, but other wise I am not sure I want my teen driving, and its not because of his ability, the driving instructor gave him all 1's and thats the highest they give, so he is doing good for his first lesson, and then his first tiem driving with me from only reading about it! I am proud of him. It is kinda eye opening though realising that you are telling your son how to drive on the streets with wild drivers out there!
It sounds like your son is doing a great job. To this day I have no idea how our daughter ever managed to get her license. I also wonder why it hasn't been taken away! Whenever she leaves our house I say a prayer to cover her because I am positive the day will come when we receive "The Call" that she was in an accident. Patty
I will NOT ride with my daughter, she is like yours Patty. She is wild and I do think about the "call".
Driving in the 5th grade Since my Daddy was a farmer and farmers need help moving from field to to field, we were allowed to drive at an early age. I was in the 5th (about 1977) grade once when we took the wheat truck to town to have it fixed....Daddy drove the truck and I follwed behind in his pickup. I was sure that our local cop would arrest me on site for driving! I was terrified! My brother drove Grannie to town (she would not learn to drive) when he was 10! No joke! I guess my Grandpa was just too busy. That would have been in 1966. Since I am on a roll now..... my first driving was while feeding cows, Daddy was feeding square bales of alfalfa. He put the pickup in gear got out and on back to cut the hay for the cows all the while instructing me to drive straight and "DON'T GIVE IT THE GAS" well........of course I did! After he fed all the hay & the dog was back in the pickup bed which was slick, well, the dog got a ride, I'd gas it and he'd slide to the back, let off and he'd slide to the front! It was great fun!
ok now I don't feel so bad. We live out in the sticks. My dd is 14, and my husband takes her driving all around out here. I am too scared to go with them LOL. I saw her back out of the driveway and *almost* hit our little shed and that was ENOUGH for me!! I am thankful that she can only go 35 out here...and she hasn't driven on the highway....
Jenn, my dh as been letting Joyce drive our car around the yard and she DID hit the shed!! She barely tapped the side of the bumper thank goodness. She is just 12 but she is very observant and I think that is why she is picking up on it so easily.
I was the teen that everyone wanted to drive them, just to give you a little perspective, I have been in more accidents than my brother and sister whom they figured were wreckless... I was in the right place at the wrong time in all of the accidents I have been in. Even so I will be praying my kids are protected as they learn and as they drive.
