Ok...my dh loves peach cobbler. I have never made one. I told him that I would one of these days. Well, our ten year anniversary is coming up on the 11th of this month and I want to surprise him. Believe me it will be a huge surprise as I hate peach cobbler. I always joked when we were dating that I was saving the peach cobbler until after marriage. lol. I just really had no clue about how to make it. lol. Well...it has been 10 years and I have never even attempted. So...regardless of any gift I can come up with, I know this will be the biggest surprise. lol. I want to use fresh peaches. The market by our house has these giant peaches that are so great.

    Thanks!!!

I don't have a cobbler one, but let me know if you want a terrific pie one. We got some fresh peaches from the orchard the other day and I used my mom's recipe. It was just about the best thing I have ever cooked! (Not that that's too big a feat! )

This is a country cobbler recipe. It uses a batter instead of the crumbles. My DH is very picky about cobbler but this won him over. It was so good we ate the whole pan in one night....lol. The original recipe called for 1 cup of sugar in the batter and the filling, but all the reviews said to half that. I half it when I make it and it's still plenty sweet. Everyone who's tried it agrees that the full 2 cups total sounds like just too much.
FYI, I've also made it with fresh peaches. It turned out beautifully.

    Batter
    1/2 cup melted butter
    1 cup flour
    1/2-1 cup sugar
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    2/3 cup room temperature milk
    1 room temperature egg
    Filling
1 (28 ounce) can sliced peaches, drained
    1/2-1 cup sugar
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

    1. Melt butter in a 9 x 13 inch pan.
    2. Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder& salt.
    3. Stir in milk& egg.
    4. Pour evenly over melted butter.
    5. Combine peaches, sugar& spices and spread over batter-DO NOT STIR!
    6. Bake 35-45 minutes at 350 degrees until batter comes to the top and is golden brown.
    7. Serve warm with ice cream.

Would this work with apples as well?

I would say that I have no idea why it wouldn't work with Apples, though I've never tried.

My Mother made cobblers like this:
Melt one stick of butter in a 9x13 pan, open a can or two of peaches/or whatever fruit you want then bring them to a boil. Mix 1 cup self rising flour, 1 cup sugar and equal amouts of egg & oil, mix these then add enough water to make it of cake batter consistency. Pour your batter over the melted butter, pour the fruit on top & bake at 350 for an hour (I think) or until the crust becomes brown to your liking.
