Hi Ladies, Could anyone tell me the difference in these two for math? We did Abeka last year for fourth grade. My son did't do well with it. Too much repeat and not enough new was basicly the problem. Any comments will be appreciated Tammy
I haven't used either but....from what I know they are about the same as far as repetition. You could take out several of the problems that he already *gets* and move on. We added in Singapore math for some variety and push forward of new things to our Calvert Math and I really like the combination of the two. You could look at it and see if would add in some variety for him. Good luck!
thank you Thank you I will have to take a look at them. I ended up skipping a lot of problems in the book because he knew how to do it and needed to focus on something new. I used the internet a lot. Tammy
Yankee Girl, What you describe as repeat problems is called Spiral Learning. That is just to ensure they don't forget how to do that concept. 8) You can always make a game of it and have your child go through the problems quickly and try to beat the previous time. I don't know of any curr. off hand that doesn't use spiral learning. We have been using Abeka since K, for 11 years now and we are really pleased. Hope you find your perfect curriculum. Staci
Staci I not looking for perfect curriculum just one that has more problems for the new material. I had to go into future lessons just to get enough problems for the new lesson for the day. I taught new lessons three days a week and reviewed problems the other two. It was my first year homeschooling maybe I'm just not mastered it yet. Tammy
