When I was doing errand on Saturday I stepped down wrong on uneven pavement and really boogered up my ankle. It didn't hurt too bad until I went to try on pants at my next stop (I ripped my good jeans when I fell so I had to get a new pair). As soon as I lifted my left foot, my right went out from under me again. It keeps turning so my foot is laying sideways on the ground but my leg is still up and down. Anyhow, it keeps going out from under me. Each time the pain, swelling, and bruising gets worse and worse. I have it wrapped as tight as I can without cutting off bloodflow, but it still keeps turning down (not quite as bad as when it's not wrapped, but it still hurts). The healing will never happen if it doesn't stop going out from under me. Anyhow, please pray. I'm in a lot of pain and I can't get comfortable any which way.
Hoping you feel better soon. I was wondering about a doctor as well. Maybe it's only a sprain, but could be something worse.
I have been, thank you. As far as going to the doctor.. that's out of the question. We're still struggling with paying off the bills from when I had pneumonia five months ago. Insurance sure would be a great thing right about now.
boogered up, that's funny! Aside, I'll pray that it's nothing serious and that you heal well & quickly! (((Amie)))
Praying here, too. We have been there and done that with insurance things, too. We had it, but our deductible was so high that one New Year's Day I stayed home coughing up blood because I couldn't afford to go to urgent care. I am sooooo glad those days are over!
I've kept it wrapped since that afternoon. It still goes out, just not quite as bad as it was before I got home and wrapped it.
Amiee, ok I have the same problem you do not with the ankle but with no insurance... so heres what I would do.. stay off it as much as you can. Use something to walk with so you are putting very little weigh on it. sounds like you are putting way to much weigh on it.. use a cane or something to walk with... inside use walls and things to help you around keep as much weigh off it as you can. Good luck..
Thanks for all your prayer and ideas, ladies. I have been trying to baby it as much as possible, but it's tough with three boys 5 and under.
Praying for you too!! I know exactly how you feel in regards to insurance. I unexpectedly had to have my gallbladder removed in March!! We're paying off HUGE medical bills also!! Let those precious babies crawl up on your lap and relax!!
Amie...please stay off it as much as possible. I know that is easier said than done. However, you can get crutches without seeing a doctor. Ice it! Keep it up as much as possible and keep weight OFF of it. Please try to do that or you will have no choice but see a doctor. By then, your injury may be severe and require more treatment which equals more debt. Use one of those carts that moves while in a store. Not sure how old your kids are....that may be very hard. Just try as best as you can to stay off of it. When you have to be up use crutches or a cane. Please...AMIE...take care...I don't want the next update to say you had to go to the doctor and it is much worse than expected. I just pray you didn't break it. I am not sure a break is something to nurse at home without proper treatment.
Amie - I just had a really bad sprain not too long ago - sprains can actually be much worse than breaks and take longer to heal than breaks. We did have insurance, so I'll tell ya what the doc told me (you had the same sort of fall, ankle turned in, then on top of it, right?). I wore a brace (the kind that slips on like a sock - you can get them at walmart for like $7). THEN...he put me in an air cast - I'm not sure you can get these from Walmart or not - but basically it's a splint on either side of the ankle that's kinda curved to fit, then it has velcro straps to hold it in place...it gives the ankle extra support so it can't turn again. I had to wear that for 10 days. I don't know where you are, or how difficult it would be for you to get those - even still with that - it took about 6 weeks before my ankle actually felt normal. Edited to add - I doubt it's broken - only because I HAVE broken my ankle before...you wouldn't be able to handle ANY pressure on your foot at all if it was broken. Not that I'm a doc but to rest assured, you'd probably know for sure if it was broken. Praying for you. I have 3 kids as well, hobbling around on an ankle (or babying it for that matter) is no easy task with kids!
Thank you Krista. I have it wrapped in an Ace because they were out of the ankle wraps when I went. I could get an air cast from our medical supply store. The pain is just a tad better today, but it bruised a lot more overnight. I'd rather it look bad and feel ok, though, so I'm not griping.
