Hi all! You guys probably don't remember me, but I starting posting on here last spring. We were in Austin, but moved and now we're all much happier. Getting ready to officially begin school soon (reviewing a bit now) and was wondering if any of you use A Beka and how you feel about it. We used Bob Jones for our first year (1st grade), but want a change. Have been checking out the A Beka site and am loving the prices and think it will be a good change for us from what I have seen. Just want to get some opinions before I take the plunge!

    THANKS!!!:D

We have used A Beka and this year are going with Bob Jones for math as well as Epsilon from Math-U-See. When I purchased A Beka, a rep. told me that the math was a year ahead. When I received Bob Jones Math recently, I was disappointed because we covered everything in the A Beka Math the year before.
I have always enjoyed A Beka for the most part. They have an awesome Language Arts curriculum. I am using this again this year, minus the readers and spelling. I am also using their history text as well as other publishers.

We have used A Beka for 8 years, except for last year we tried Math-U-See. We are going to use all A Beka this year. Elijah is used to it, so we will go back. We are going to use the DVD's. It is a lot of work, so we will not be doing all they suggest. It is a fast pace program, but very good. Just my opinion.

I agree, it is fast paced but what is great is you can slow down anytime needed, just like most curriculum.
I know I already said this but I really do like the Language Arts. I find it has a good balance between grammar, sentence structure, and the use of English in general. It is well rounded in this subject. At least it is for us.

Thank you so much for such quick responses! I have heard that the math is advanced, but that's ok..we'll just work through it at my son's own pace. I am looking forward to their language arts program. From what I have read off of their site it looks like it will be better than Bob Jones. To be honest I only used Bob Jones because my son's kindergarten used it and I wanted something familiar for him when he started hsing. The math is ok, but the English/Phonics at times bored him to tears. Lots of review from kindergarten and too much coloring. Got to the point I would make him do the excercise and skip all coloring. We're definitely looking forward to a change. I found an A Beka preview at a local hotel here so I think we're going to head to that and place our order...they say it's free shipping if you order there.

We have used A beka for most of our years home schooling. I used Alpha Omega a bit but went back to A beka. I am not crazy about the Math though. I'd love to use Saxon Math but it's too expensive right now for us. A beka is a great curriculum but it's not for everyone.
