People usually ask Jeanne what grade she is in. When she was a Ker, she used to say 'I'm in homeschool grade.'
Oh, Mommyto2, I'd lay it on thick with that name! 'What? You never heard of the great Valeria Iona??' Lol- can you imagine people wondering who on earth that is??
I can just see some parent talking to her kid's teacher about why she isn't teaching about 'the great Valeria Iona' in history class. Can you imagine the look on poor teacher's face?
Cool idea hmsclmommyto 2! Very cute. We both have quotes from Albert Einstein..but I must say I like yours better. lol.
we have a school named that here! It's a private school (not homeschoolers ) http://www.lighthousechristianacademy.com/ Michelle
When I am asked (and they usually ask me) I say they don't go to school. (mainly because I like to see the look on peoples faces when I say it. Yeah, I know I'm a Smart Aleck) DS1 says he homeschools and DS2 says he homeschools and if I am not careful he will lecture the person about why homeschooling is better and he has never been to real school and so on and so on. (And NO I didn't prompt him to say any of it  ) AM
T'mom, my kids usually say one of the top 3, but they have said all of those in the past. It depends on who is asking and the response they want, lol
it is funny though cause as they change through the years and depending on who it is, like you said, they will either be proud or emberassed... do we portray that? Are we bold about home schooling? I was convincing a lady at Walmart the other day to come check out this site, not sure if she did but she was wondering if she should home school one of her kidos for health reasons.
I know....but it's also the name of our homeschool. I had looked up the name when we thought of it (I love lighthouses), and didn't see it anywhere. Then AFTER I had our shirts made and stuff, I found it when I was looking through something on-line!!! I thought that was pretty crazy! Why didn't it come up before?! Even the text they use is what I have on our shirts! But I swear I had NO IDEA they were around!
well it used to be a blank stare at me lol. Then it was "I don't go to school" now it's "I homeschool" or "my mommy teaches me"
Well for a while, Christian was saying that "we homeschool". I think that's what I say too, and I've heard dh say it. I think, though, that I'll work with Christian and have him say that "my mom teaches me". The reason I say this is because, though he used to just say "we homeschool," this past week when we went to Waco, we stopped at a Wendy's on the way home. It was the middle of the night, and she wasn't rude, but the lady asked my son why he's up late, does he go to school? (And she really, honestly wasn't being rude. In fact, that's the best service I've EVER gotten in a fast food place - EVER.) He said, "Sorta..." and looked up at me. She repeated, "Sorta?" And kind of laughed. SO I told her we homeschool, and she said it was cool and if I teach the little kids too. I said that we started recently, and she said that it was cool that we could do things that we wanted when we wanted to do them. (And yes, we were at Wendy's at 1am on a Monday night. LOL) Anyway. So I think I'll give Christian at least a few things he can say so that he doesn't just stammer like that.... LOL
** Deena, the school my son goes out to is Lighthouse Christian School up to two three years ago! Now they call it Christian Center Schools.
My dd9 was at the eye doc. the other day and the doc asked where she went to school. My dd just looked at me. Then the doc looks at me. I told her we home school. (That is why I think we will just tell them we attend Odyssey Academy from now on.) My poor dd looked like she was put in a cage at home and never allowed to speak unless she has permission or I would beat her or something lol. Thats the way it looked when the doc asked her that question. lol She is very shy and backwards. (until she gets to know you and then she will talk your ear off)
I usually just say we're homeschooled, or that we go to <Our Last Name> Academy. That really confuses them.
Yesterday we were at a store & a lady started talking to my son. She asked if he would be goig to school this year & he said "yes". Then she asked if he would be in Kindergarten. When he didn't respond, she looked at me & I informed her that he's only 3 y.o. & that we homeschool.
