I was quite surprised actually..... I filed my notice of intent (as required by law) in early July since we were going to be too busy after fair (it's due in August).

I never had ANY problem with the people there and actually work a great deal with the VP because he sells honey at the farmer's markets I do work with and for. They had always been wonderful and honest about the fact that though we are a very rich county, there just wasn't enough to give enough individual attention in certain areas when needed.

So they called me today asking if the kids were coming back and I said no we are homeschooling - and their response was very nice and mad only at the county for not letting them know. Apparently our kids are listed on the attendence sheets and were assigned classrooms, but at the same point weren't "in the system"..... Oh well - at least I know that they know my kids aren't going to be there :)

well if it's any consolation, we were still getting calls at the end of this past school year-6 months after we withdrew dd from ps, about absences. And the lunch room still owes me 10 bucks lol. It's not worth the 10 bucks to go back and hassle with them.

Nothing beats the day our school called here and said if I didn't register Jeannie for K by a few days after the call, they wouldn't take her at all. Dunces.

Our PS sent us approximately 15 papers to fill out and return by Aug. 15th in order to continue to homeschool her. Interesting considering that legally, I have until Oct. 1 and the total amount of info that is required is less than 2 pages long! Obviously, I didn't do their "assignment". In fact, I'm so annoyed right now, I may not turn in my notice of intent until Oct. 1.
Oh, they also offered me the use of any ps material that I would like to use. We could also submit a claim for reimbursement for any secular curriculum bought - total under $100. Since ps curriculum wasn't working last year; and we are using Christian curriculum - I'm guessing I have no use for their "assistance". LOL
Side note - last year they denied speech therapy to my ds4. Now, they say he's eligible if I do their screening. Ummmm, don't think so! We many have to keep pinching pennies, but at least my kids are safe.

Last year I had inquired about K at our local school, it was spring time(2006) and in the fall I got a letter telling me what classroom she was in and what time to be there. I was like Umm I never signed anything. I called and left them a message that she would not be at thier school..havent heard anything from them since.

We dont have to notify them of HSing, or fill out any intent paperwork.

Are you a member of HSLDA? Even if you're not, it might be worthwhile to send them a copy of all those pages the school sent you to fill out. HSLDA will notify the school that they are overstepping their legal bounds. This will help the other homeschooling families that the PS sent those papers to also.

    Gardening Momma,
Thanks for the tip, I hadn't considered that other hs families may not know exactly what is and isn't required.
I don't yet have enough saved to join HSLDA, but did join MACHE (MN Christian state group). I've been getting most of my info through them, but I know they double check everything with HSLDA.
I will take you up on your suggestion and send a copy to them. Thanks
