Hi! I'm new to the Homeschool Spot, but not new to homeschooling. I'm a 29 year old mommy of 6 - 4 natural, 2 "gifts" (gifts are what I call step-kids). The kids are 14 1/2 (F), 10(M), 10(F), 8 1/2(F), 4(F), and almost 3(M). We homeschool the last 4. I'm a writer who works from home whenever I get a free moment that the kids don't need me in (if those exist. LOL)
welcome to hs spot. I am sure glad you found us.. I hope you enjoy this site as much as I do. I am hsing two girls whom are 14 and 12 and we travel and live in a rv with my dh who goes around with his job...
Hi. I'm new here and totally new to the homeschooling idea. I am interested in this for my 12 yo son but my husband and I both work full-time. Can this be done without my son paying for it education-wise?
Welcome Mommy2lots and Julia! It's great to have you joining us. Julia, I tend to say, "where there's a will, there's a way." If you want it badly enough, you'll figure out how to make it work. Just keep in mind that you're not a bad parent if you don't want it badly enough . I'm a novice hs'er so I'm not sure I'll have too much insight.
Welcome to both of you! I work from home and it can get crazy a lot of the time; but my kids are still doing better at home. I love that you refer to your stepchildren as "gifts"!
Thanks for all the welcomes. Julia, It is still possible to hs even if you both work. There is always evenings (assuming you are working in the daytime) and even weekends. Keep in mind that in a homeschool setting, most states only require about 4 hours of instruction per day and it doesn't matter which hours those are. Some states don't have a requirement, such as Texas. Who looks after him when you work? If it's a childcare center, they might question you as to why he isn't in school. It will be easier if he is being looked after by relatives. Some childcare centers will attempt to have dcfs investigate you , so be cautious of that aspect. I don't know any of the rules for SC, so I would suggest trying the Homeschool Legal Defense Association. I haven't been a member long enough to post a link to it, so just do a search for "HSLDA" and you'll find it.
