We went to a museum that had a Bug day. Lots and lots of bugs. Even I learned alot. that was pretty much school for all of us. Right now my preschoolers are napping and my 2nd grader is playing with a friend. PS here seemed to have had a half day, only 2 weeks into the school year. We have taking a break from our routine. I did oral test for spelling and am debating if I want to continue with the lessons, she spelled them all right outlound. So why go the lessons, right? I will test her by having her write them tomorrow though. We stopped what we are using and will finish up some old workbooks I found. They are almost completed. I told her if she finishes them she can either pick a movie to buy and have a sleep over or we can go to the movies minus siblings with a friend. It's a hard choice right now. Next week we will go back to the books. We just have a hard time following thru with our stuff. We get side tracked alot.
We haven't done anything "official" yet today, either, although we'll probably do a little flip book when ds is done with lunch. We went to the science museum this morning and then we had to make a trip to WalMart to get batteries for the light-up hat he picked at the museum.
Ah yes, we've taken a break this week and last week. We did school last week, just not every day. This week we haven't done anything but meet with friends, go on field trips, and dd's been sick. I can tell she's getting antsy though so back to work next week hehe. She told me this morning "my brain needs a workout" lol.
We were so laid back yesterday. We went to story time at the library and ran into some friends we hadn't seen in a while who used to go to ps and are now hs'ed. The mom wanted to see some of what we use so we invited them over and the girls spent all afternoon playing until it was time to go to gymnastics. Samantha did manage to do a couple of math pages and work a bit on English and read before bed. I love being able to kick back and not worry. Those two girls are coming over for a sleep over soon and we all plan to go on a field trip next Wednesday!
We have had a semi laid back day today, the older 2 have finished most their book work. but I had only done math with my younger 2 and then the mail came brining our 30th anniversary Schoolhouse Rock DVD and Donald in Mathamagical Land DVD so we have been watching those hey their educational
Whew!!! I am glad it is not just us here having a break. We haven't done alot for the last few days. My MIL has been out of sorts so I have been tending to her and I just started a new job (at night) plus I caught a cold and have been feeling pretty icky. We checked out a video on Nat'l Parks (a two parter) and the kids watched that yesterday and Monday plus they did some math facts on the computer. Today was a "Gym Day". The kids spent the day outside playing. I caught up on laundry and made some much needed phones calls. Hopefully, when I get to feeling better and get used to the new work schedule things will get back to normal.
We are laid back for the rest of the week. Another trip tomorrow and then camping. We are keeping busy because once November hits it visiting time and then hibernation time for us. Winter will be here and we will hide and come out for church and AWANAs and a few play dates after school. So from December to February we will be working hard busting butts with school and then start emerging mid March.
We were definitely laid back today. Compare to last year, I am sooo starting to relax. We had eye doctor appointments this morning and went to a zoo class early afternoon. Then spent the rest of afternoon at zoo. We got some work done but I really enjoyed spending my day with the girls.
Ohh definately once winter starts its inside for us! no quick runs to the library or anything...enjoy the outside weather and other stufff while you can. we've been doing the same here also.
Our week just got even more laid back! Today we only will do some school this morning. Only a little bit. We leave at 1 and will be gone all afternoon for Samantha's drama classes. Her friends are coming for a sleepover tonight and then tomorrow morning I am taking both my girls to grandma's for the weekend! So there will be no school on Friday. I am going to try and cram as much as I can in this morning but the girls still have to clean their rooms and pack for the weekend.
But drama is part of schooling. And social skills (the sleepover) is important, remember, cuz we homeschoolers NEVER get any socialization! And again, at grandma's house, it may be very hard, but, again, the social skills will come into play dealing with older people at grandma's house! So really, I think you're doing a great job actually getting your homeschooler out of the house and on to socialization! Hey, this is the weekend huh? Have FUN!
Tuesday we went to the park for homeschool park day, lunch at the mc Donalds with a dinosaur exhibit (little display) and the bookstore. Wednesday all we did was the field trip to the pizza place. Today we are starting our unit on Aulstralia..... mostly coloring animial pages.( and other work sheets)
We went to story time this morning. We were about to make porridge, when ds decided he needed to go to the bathroom. He is still in there. When dh gets home from a meeting in a bit I am going to run some errands, so we may end up doing school tonight!
