I posted my re-intro on the intro forum it's been a while since I posted. My question is Does anyone use Math U See or Teaching Text books? Right now we are using Saxon Math While we like it ok. I've looked into the other 2 programs a little bit. But would really like info on them from someone who has used them. This will be my 1st full year of homeschooling. We pulled our son in Feb of this year from PS. He is in 4th grade now and is doing the Saxon 5/4. Thank you for any info you can give me. I really like this board. Thanks. TC

If you do a search, you'll probably find where we've talked about these.

I haven't used math-u-see but others on here have. My kids never got along with Saxon. We tried it again last year, and it didn't go well. This year we are using Teaching Textbooks. Well, ds's TT is back ordered, so we don't have it yet. I've tried on ebay, but I get outbid. So, at some point this year I WILL have the TT Algebra 1 for ds! :) Right now we're working on some geometry until we get his TT book.

Dd10 is using TT this year and says she likes it MUCH better than Saxon! She's really catching on well, and is understanding things better. She's almost gifted in math, but Saxon frustrated her to the point she thought she didn't like it anymore. So now it's good to see her back to enjoying it again!

TT is the first math program made for individual learners, such as homeschoolers. It's been great for us so far, though we're only a month into it. I hope to say the same thing at the end of this school year!!! :)

Did you know I meant a search on Homeschool Spot for anything about Math-U-See and/or TT? I'm not sure if I made that clear!

You know, I know about that site, and I never think to go there! Duh! Thanks for the reminder! :)

We have tried Math U See and didn't like it. He had always done A Beka, so I think the change kinda confused him. There are others here that have used it and like it.

We use Math-U-See and love it. Everything is very easy to understand and "see" :) We've never used the other programs though, so I don't know how it compares. We are also only in Alpha, so I don't know much about how the other levels are.

We're doing Teaching Textbooks Geometry. It's working very well for us, at least when my daughter is honest enough and admits she needs to watch more of it, lol! Her scores went from the high 80's to the low-to-mid 70's, so I had to sit down with her and go over what exactly she's doing, and how she needs to go over things if she doesn't understand. But I think we got through it!

Deena, what level is Alanna doing?

I'm starting MathUSee with my son. I have a friend who's used it from the beginning and LOVES it. I'm hoping I love it too. If i do, I'm switching my eldest to it too next year.

Math U see will send you a free demo DVD and info ont he program, they also have LOTS on the website to help you figure out which program you'd start with.

    :) HTH.

She's doing the Pre-Algebra level. It's easy right now cuz it's still review stuff. We'll see how it goes in awhile when it gets more "meaty". But I think it'll be fine, because it explains things so well! She opts to just read through some of it sometimes. And we went through one lesson orally, and quickly, because it was sooooo review it was a waste of time! But watching the cd lessons has been good much of the time, cuz she can see the steps as they go.

We use M-U-S through intermediate, then switch to Saxon about 5th/6th grade. Saxon is more suited to self-pacing so I like it better for older kids.
More details on MUS vs. Saxon at our site - link in signature.

Hi Jo!!! I haven't seen you on in awhile! How are you?! (sorry for the thread snag!)......

WE GOT DS'S TT ALGEBRA on Wednesday (over a month after I ordered it, cuz it was back-ordered)! Yesterday he went through things on the Chapter 1 cd until he didn't quite understand something. Then today he listened and watched the "lecture". He felt he understood, so he went and did the whole assignment, except the last problem. He didn't understand it, so he came to me and asked if he could look at the lecture again. I told him, "That's one reason why I got this math program---so you could go over the lecture stuff and example problems. You can go over them 100 times if that's what you need!" He smiled, then watched it again. A couple of minutes later he yelled, "I GOT it! I understand it now!" Then he went and did the problem! That was the only thing he didn't understand about chapter 1. So on Monday he'll take the Chapter 1 test and move into Chapter 2.

So far I'm really liking this math program! :D I LOVE it when my kids get excited about MATH! ;)

Hi Deena, yes I'm a slack member here, as you can see by my pitiful post count.

We are all pretty good now apart from stuffy noses on both kids. My father is not so great, he’s in hospital with a broken pelvic bone. 78 years old and he is still careless going up ladders. He is being transferred back from the city hospital to our local towns one tomorrow so that will make visiting much easier.
So what with having some bug for a couple of weeks, then ds birthday, then dads accident and going down there (Gold Coast hospital) which is a 3 hour journey and staying awhile we have probably only done about 3 days worth of school lately.

My mil is coming in the ambulance the last part of the journey back. They have some silly rule about wanting someone to go with him. So she will be staying with us for a few days and of course the house is a bomb site, so tomorrow will be no school again, as I have to actually clean up.

Wow! I'm glad you made an appearance here through all that! I'll pray for you!

Do they have a MUS place for you to buy from there in Australia?

Thanks Deena. Dad says he’s feeling nauseous all the time so prayer about that would be great.

Yes there is an Australian rep that you buy the Aussie version through. It has metric and Aussie money.
