I have heard a ton about flaxseed for some time. I have wanted to incorporate it into my cooking but never did until a few days ago. It is awesome! The stuff is great for you and can be added to anything! I added it to waffles, breads, pasta, and oatmeal. Kids never noticed the difference. Anyway...just wanted to let ya'll know that it is pretty much tasteless and easy to sprinkle on anything. OH..I used it on yogurt and cereal. It is so good for you that I just can't resist.

Oh...sidenote...awhile back I asked about honey. I have incorporated honey in my diet and guess what? I have not had to take an allergy pill since!!! I felt like a drug addict when it came to allergy pills this year! LOL. Now I am drug free! LOL. That was off topic but I thought of it since honey and flaxseed were the two new things I added to my family's diet.

I use flaxseed meal as well. I add it to gravies and soups, and other dishes. I also whiz up a fuit drink and I add it to that as well.

To me it has a bit of a nutty flavor. I like it!

That's neat about the honey! I meant to try to get some from one place that I know has their own bees and gets the honey from them and sells it. I need to get to doing that and see how it goes!

    LOVE the stuff!

You can find it an any health food store and most grocery stores. I buy the seeds & grind it myself. You HAVE to grind it to get the benefits of it. It had good fats as well!

Kris, it's not a a strong or overwhelming taste---it's GOOD! It's worth a try! Actually, I put enough in so I CAN taste it cuz I like the flavor! So you could still get the benefits with less. And in soups and other things it wouldn't be noticeable.

Ask someone in your local grocery store if they carry it. It's in our Safeway in the cooking aisle (near the flours and sugars. It's called Bob's Red Mill Whole Ground Flaxseed Meal. It has yellow packaging and is 16 oz. in size.

I use flax seeds and grind them up with my DH's $10 coffee grinder that hasn't been used in forever. Then, I mix it into my cupcakes, muffins, and brownies. My DD generally runs underweight due to her prematurity and to severe constipation issues. So, we can fatten her up but also sneak in something that helps with her constipation!

And, you're right, there is NO taste at all. The taste is so unbelievably light; when you add it to anything with flavor, it disappears completely. I did notice it makes the brownies and cakes denser, but not to any major degree.

The Bob's Red Mill is what I have also. I find that if you add just the recommeneded amount there really is no taste. I add a bit more to my cereal because, like Deena, I like it.

I shyed away from it because of the expense. It comes in a small package and stupid me thought it was a sub for flour! LOL. The serving size is only 2T. lol. You don't need much at all to get the benefits. You can add more if you wish. I added about 1/4 cup to waffles. My son thought they were awesome. Now I think it will be a staple in our diet.

Kris, let us know if you find it and use it and what you think of it!

They have the whole flaxseed that you can get as well. I had a cheapy tiny coffee grinder thing that I would grind the seeds with in small amounts, since fresh ground is supposed to be better. But I got lazy and got the meal. I keep it refrigerated to keep it fresher longer.

I use it too. I bought it preground, but have heard, too, that it's better if you buy whole flax and grind it yourself. Someday.

I make a gluten free flax bread that, to me, is really good. :D
