Okay, prior to fall I had sites to go to to help me teach my dd her algerbra 1.. she gets most of it once she gets it taught, first time etc, somethings she figures out on her own but since we had the old curric we did nto get to buy a new one this year and get one of those MARVELOUS teaching textbooks or video text like I wanted... so
What are some of the sites that have a teacher explaining again?
I knwo there are some with actual video clips of the subject matter and you can sit and watch it with child.... HELP?

Dd hit a spot where I drew a blank on how to explain how to do it, read the AOP teacher stuff to her we figured part of it with that.. its the point where you dont solve it you just regroup or reorganise the polynumial equatiosn or something liek that?
2y-3y+y^2(second power)-2y^3rd. etc that sort of thing, lol
no = or anything, just working the equation and reducing the confusion basically to put it in laymens terms... so I want one of those sites again anyone remember them?
    THanks!

Tell me the problem. I MIGHT be able to figure it out, but not promises. I went through that with Rachael last year. Fortunately, high school math is Carl's area, so when I was totally confuseled, we cried on Daddy's shoulder!

CONFUSELED-the new "word" around our house, not to be confused with CONFUDDLED.

Is that a real word? Is that some kind of cruel joke??? Now I am confuddled. LOL. Cute words, Jackie!

    Well, I'm confuseled! ;)

Don't ask ME about algebra stuff! I can't believe that my 10yo is passing me now with math knowledge! I'm glad for her sake, but it feels strange!

I can help you with algebra, too, if the videos don't work for you. :)

dd#1 is asking what grade you are talking about, TM. Made her nervous reading the equation...

thanks for all those links! I got to one on Idaho U's site that is very helpful and then one of the others dd sat and watched today. She said thanks that they are very helpful, so for half of her class each day now she will have a 'video class' and the other half she will work in her book!
I feel like such a weight was lifted off my shoulder because she wanted a video class for algerbra but we had to say no cause we still had 9th grade algerbra Life Paks sitting there... the teacher book has lots of helps for teacher BUT, if you really are not a big algerbra liker you really have to think too much for a daily thing for me!
I knwo once I watch a few fo these videos myself I will click , like I did last year when I subbed for that class of jr sr class kids. But right now I have so much going on its hard to think straight enough to keep my house clean let alone teach a subject I really did not enjoy learning as a kid. I am not one to lie so my kids know what classes I hated and what ones I loved, if they ask me why they have to do it, I have to find reasons.. the video site that vantage sent was excellent for describing why and how and what you can do with polynomials! It kept her attention all except for , " I know I wont use these as an interior designer mom so I just don't see why I have to learn this stuff." is still an issue. If I did not have to do required courses for highschool I would not make her take it Lol, I guess I can tell her she needs A1 to get to G1!

my dd is 13 in 9/10th grade. her algerbra is 9th thats her one class in 9th cause she did not do it all last year, she sat and doodled, or did half the work and left the rest out of eithe rfrustration or boredom depending on the work. We fought over it and everything then I said, I am not pushing her through this, she HAS to get it to go to the next level.
she has like half a year of algerbra left.
thats all, but she does what ever she can to get out of it, to the point of saying yes I did it a few times that I found she had not!
(she is the one I have had a hard time with telling fibs out of the three the other two can't pull it off.)

Actually, as an interior designer she is going to have to find the area of walls and floors and etc... I suspect she is going to find math in general and algebra in particular very handy! Now calculus she probably won't use so much... :)

As much as she wants to be an interior designer now (and that very well might happen), once she gets into it, whether it's in college classes or in practical experience, she might find she wants or needs to do something else instead. That's why we need the basic core classes like Algebra 1, Biology, Chemistry, etc...

Actually, I think Algebra would be practical to interior design. It would help to determine the area of a wall or floor, how much tile or carpeting, or whatever needs to be bought, how much paint needs to be bought, how much material, etc. How much space a cabinet will take up, all kinds of stuff.

you know what you all are talking Geometry, area and that is geometry, but still to get to that she needs her algerbra
she did it today with no problems after watchng two of the videos, she said to me, THAT was easy.. it was TOO easy, it should have been harder...
But she wont admit it was the videos she said it was my teaching her yesterday! WOW!
I thik the vids are great! We will use them now each day before she does her algerbra work since she actually does go through them quick once she knows what ot do she did the rest of yesterdays work and a self test today. Which from what I learned today too, looks accurate!

YOu'll find a lot of overlap between algebra and geometry. (Marylyn, I hadn't read your comments! Didn't realize I had posted almost the same thing!!!)

yep, so she has to do it, I think that is what her biggest problem is with it, she just doesnt WANT to, she can get it once it is taught like I said, but she hates doing it because she HAS to.

You remember Betsy? "Not because you tell me to just because I want to" that is my dd! lol, if she is doing something because she wants to she will do 200 percent job.. if she is forced to do something she takes fifty years to change a sock... lol
but show her how to do it once and she will remember it fifty years from now in detail too!
I think she realised today that it is not as hard as she was making it.. but you know its easier to DO algerbra than it is to teach it I have decided... but then again... I have heard the same exact words come from hubbys mouth and have the kids understand it, word for word we have used the EXACT phrases lol.
so it has to be an attitude of learning
