I know some of you use TT; we switched to it this year for Rachael and Geometry. So far we've liked it pretty well. We've also discussed back and forth about it, since it's pretty pricey and all. I wanted to let you know what happened today. I was helping Rachael see through a proof. Afterwards, she tolld me, "Oh, I like having the video, btw." She says that when she has trouble with a proof, she gets confused reading the answer in the book. All the different letters start blurring and running together. When she watches the video, she can hear it while he's doing the illustrating and she does much better keeping it all straight.

So take that for what it's worth as y'all make math decisions for next year!

That is great that she got it!! We have decided to start using TT next year, the 5th grade level will be just right for my then 4th grader. When I told hubby the price his jaw litterally hit the floor. I never ask for things that are that expensive... and he knows I do everything I can for a cheaply as I can. He knew I was serious when I asked for it, but was still shocked at the price. We then went to the site and watched some of the sample lessons.. and he LOVED them!!! He is now convinced the money will be well spent.. and they can be saved for the younger kids!! When you divide the price by 3, then figure what 3 years of a tutor would cost .. or even 1 year of a tutor, it is very affordable.

I'm seriously thinking of getting it in a few yers for Geometry for dd. Then, if we really like it, maybe she'll use it for Algebra 2. And we might start with the pre-algebra for ds when he's old enough (many years for that, but I like to at least have ideas & plans).

This is what we are going to get next year for our son who will be in 5th grade. I can't wait till we can get it. We have already started saving for it. We take all of our 1 dollar bills and put them in a can and don't spend them. I believe he will love it. TC

I'm seriously thinking about it for my son next year (7th grade). I know it's expensive, but I can use it with all 4 kids, so I feel that I'll get my money's worth from it.

I read on the TT site that they will be coming out with 4th grade this spring.

It will be nice to have this to fall back on if needed for the upper grades.

Crazymama - I know what you mean about the price! It's going to stretch our budget but I really want to start Catherine on Grade 5 math this winter. I think it probably makes all the difference having those lectures to explain the concepts...It also makes it a little more self directed for Catherine so I can do some more things with Harry.

We are going to buy it with income tax. I'm looking towards other things I want to get that are out of our budget as well for income tax time. I think that will be when I do most of my purchases for the next year.

One thing we like about it is that it has step by step answers to every single problem there is in that level! My ds has used that a few times, and says he really likes that they do that, it really helps him to be able to see it worked out like that!

And it's true---once you buy it, you can use it for the younger ones, so for those of you that have 2 or more kids, it's DEFINITELY worth it! My problem this year was getting it for my dd---she's the youngest, but we needed a big change, and this was what we felt was best! After she's done with this level, she'll be able to go into the levels that we will already have for her older brother, so that will help cost-wise! My dh also was surprised at the cost, but let me get it, based on my research and our childrens' needs! Once he saw how well the kids are doing with it, he was well satisfied!

I think that all of us have shown sense in buying things as cost-effeciently as possible. Our DH's know from experience that we are not going to spend that much haphazardly, and trust our judgement on it. I know Carl did examine other options, but it came down to the fact that I am doing the teaching, and he agrees that he can either take over the teaching of higher math, or go with something I am capable of working with.

thanks for the review, I have been considering it for Algebra 2 for my son. He is at a co op where he gets a math lesson 2x a week but he is not feeling confident in it, I am trying to decide if TT is worth it and will it help his style or not.

I have to say I'm so glad I found TT. It has gotten Aaron back to where he should be with his math. We've been behind ever since we started homeschooling 3 years ago simply because he was already behind from the last year of public school and using the Saxon curriculum.
