Dear ladies! Please share your favourite recepies for Christmas cookies, something easy to make, that can involve kids help and something delicious. TX!
These are cute and easy to do for kids!!! The cookie is just a store-bought sugar cookie dough. http://www.familycorner.com/jpg2/reindeer_cookies1.jpg Not a cookie, but we always dip the ends of pretzel rods in chocolate, then cover them with sprinkles or crushed pepermint candies. That's good for kids, too!
Jackie, that is so cute! I wonder if I could do that with gluten free dough. These are links to my old blog...before going gluten-free...these are the ones I used to make every year at Christmas. This year I did figure out how to make them gluten-free thanks to Land O Lakes! I won't make you suffer thru abnormal cookies or send you for strange flours...you go ahead and make the real deals...okay??? HEE HEEE!!! Seven Layer Bars Ultimate Snickerdoodles Shoot...can't find my peanut butter cookie recipe, I must have never posted...so...I'm posting that one one my gluten free blog today, if you want that one all you have to do is remove the Xanthan Gum and use regular flour instead of a gluten free blend. And of course, Chocolate Chip cookes.
Actually, I make something similar with a chocolate dough and red gumdrops for the nose, but I figured it works SO much better to actually SEE the picture!
I have to brag on Krista's snickerdoodles. they are great, the only thing my husband ask for at Christmas time. Krista going gluten free was a major hit to our new meal lists. Aggie
Sorry Aggie! You are so sweet!!! Ya know....just because i made something gluten free - doesn't mean you couldn't adapt with gluten. I'm always here to help! If you see anything on my blog that you'd like to know how to make WITH gluten, let me know...as a matter of fact most of my recipes started out as gluten recipes and I'm converting over to gluten-free... Maybe I should go back to posting on my regular food blog too and just do the regular version of the recipe for those who are interested... Hmmm..."food" for thought!
Jackie - do you use a "tulip" cookie cutter to make the face part? I could do this with gluten free sugar cookie dough and gluten free pretzels...they'd be really cute!

No. I roll the dough into 6 circles, and then divide the circle into 6 triangles. Like I said, you really need to SEE them to understand. Here's the recipe I use: Chocolate Reindeer 1 cup butter softened (I ALWAYS use REAL in cookies!!!) 1 1/2 cup sugar 1/3 cup cocoa powder 2 tsp. cream of tartar 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 3 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 3 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 72 small pretzel twists 72 candy-coated milk chocolate pieces 36 small red gumdrops In a large mixing bowl beat butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar, cocoa powder, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Beat until combined. Add in eggs and vanilla, beat. Add in flour and mix. Divide dough in 6 portions. Chill three hours, or until dough is easy to handle. On lightly floured surface, roll each portion into a 6" circle. Cut into six wedges. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Add pretzel antlers, gumdrop nose and m&m eyes. Bake at 375° for 7-9 minutes, or until edges are firm. Let sit one minute, then transfer to cooling rack. *I've seen so many beautiful cookies that requires a degree in art to make look nice. These are so simple to get them to look right. The kids feel really proud of them!

BTW, Krista, I'm enjoying your blog! There's several things on there I'd like to try. I do make Russian Tea, similar to your "Forget-Me-Not" tea. Faythe is complaining that it's COLD and I've not made up any yet! She's in the kitchen now trying your snickerdoodles. My only "complaint" is that I rarely do chocolate chip cookies for Christmas. To me, they're for any time of the year BUT Christmas, lol!
Here is my version of reindeer cookies. We made them yesterday. We have made them every year since my oldest was 2. I use peanut butter cookie dough (for the color), chocolate chips for eyes and usually a red hot for the nose. This year I couldn't find red hots, so I got peppermint M&M's. They look cuter than the red hots. I put the nose in immediately after taking them out of the oven, because M&M's melt and crack in the oven. I just shape my own dough. No cookie cutters needed! Oh, and I use the big pretzels, not the small ones. We also do the white chocolate dipped rod pretzels and made those yesterday, too. Another EASY recipe: Stained glass windows: 1 pkg. chocolate chips, semi-sweet 1 stick butter or margarine 1 pkg. colored mini marshmallows Melt butter over low heat. Add chocolate chips and stir until melted. Remove from heat. Add entire package of marshmallows. Quickly mix into the chocoate and pour in a line on waxed paper. Roll paper up to make into a log shape. Chill in the fridge. Once hardened, slice into 1/4 in. pieces.
Alton Brown Sugar Cookies This is my favorite from the Food Network Alton Brown ever since I made these sugar cookies I have never tried another because they are so perfect for us Enjoy Sam 3 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 cup unsalted butter, softened 1 cup sugar 1 egg, beaten 1 tablespoon milk Powdered sugar, for rolling out dough Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. Place butter and sugar in large bowl of electric stand mixer and beat until light in color. Add egg and milk and beat to combine. Put mixer on low speed, gradually add flour, and beat until mixture pulls away from the side of the bowl. Divide the dough in half, wrap in waxed paper, and refrigerate for 2 hours. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Sprinkle surface where you will roll out dough with powdered sugar. Remove 1 wrapped pack of dough from refrigerator at a time, sprinkle rolling pin with powdered sugar, and roll out dough to 1/4-inch thick. Move the dough around and check underneath frequently to make sure it is not sticking. If dough has warmed during rolling, place cold cookie sheet on top for 10 minutes to chill. Cut into desired shape, place at least 1-inch apart on greased baking sheet, parchment, or silicone baking mat, and bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until cookies are just beginning to turn brown around the edges, rotating cookie sheet halfway through baking time. Let sit on baking sheet for 2 minutes after removal from oven and then move to complete cooling on wire rack. Serve as is or ice as desired. Store in airtight container for up to 1 week.
