Hi, I'm new to this forum. I'm looking at curriculum and distance learning schools for my DS, and came across Seascape Educational Center. They sound interesting, but I can't find any outside information on them. Has anyone else ever heard of them? Anyone know anyone who's used them? I'd appreciate any information on them. Thanks!

I haven't either. Did you find them on-line or where? I'd Google the name and see what comes up, unless you've already done that. Otherwise I hope you find someone who knows their name and more about them.

I used Seascape for 1st grade, we're going with Calvert for 2nd. I was not entirely unhappy with Seascape, but not pleased to go to Wal-Mart and see several of the workbooks there that I paid much more for. The don't send a lesson plan that coordinates the texts (it's a "do 2 pages of this and 3 pages of that" sort of thing) and my daughter is quite advanced, but the solar system and animal books they sent I had to do with her because they were at a much higher grade level. Lastly, the solar system book was not up to date at all, and there were several typos in the other workbooks. The hard bound texts were out of date, in my opinion, and you don't get to keep those. All in all, I wish I had gone with Calvert first and I just chalk it up as a learning experience. If you just want a basics curriculum and you are going to add a lot of enrichments on your own, Seascape might work for you. I've heard that they have a great special ed program, but I've not seen it myself. There's not much information out there about Seascape, hopefully there will be more dialogue here soon.

I heard of it.. but didn't look too much into it because I don't like the "curriculum in a box" type approach. It is alot like ps in that it is almost like a one size fits all and is too loose on some, and too tight on others and only a very few get the proper fit out of it.

I hope you find what is just right for your families needs!

We use Seascape and absolutely love them. I have a son in the 6th grade with Seascape and we used them for the 5th grade, as well. I actually was very impressed with their curriculum. My son received all hard back textbooks and the daily schedule is convenient and easy to follow. He always knows exactly how much to complete in each book every day. I know that Seascape customizes every program to the students needs and interests so as far as I know, no two curriculum programs are alike. A friend of mine has her daughter enrolled in Seascape's 6th grade program and her curriculum is different from my son's. She's really happy with hers also and many times my son and her daughter complete their assignments together.

In my opinion, I haven't seen a better program out there for the price. :D
