Patty~ Thank you so much for pointing that out! That gives me some relief! So if we only get 170 or 175 no sweat.
You can do 100 days as long as your children are learning. I will be extreme and say you can do one day as long as your child is learning. Not literally but you get my meaning. Patty
I forgot to add that if you are using a charter or state funded program, then you need to cover as many days as they require as well. Patty
I will admit I did not read all the posts. I only take holidays off that I feel like taking off. I don't take MLK Jr. Day off or President's Day. I only take off a holiday if my dh is off work or we have plans.
I do not take off every holiday either but sometimes we like to make up our own holidays. Ems looooooovvvvees animals. So she marks the calendar throughout the year with cat day, dog day, etc... We take the day off from our regular work and study the animal she likes. Sometimes we make animal treats and animal crafts. I wanted to volunteer at our Humane Society but all volunteers have to be 18 and older. Patty
Patty, that is a wonderful idea!!!!! I love that! I will have to think of some fun holidays! My kids would really get into a Lego Day or something like that. Great idea!
I'm being more of a stickler than I probably need to be! Yes, where she left off, we still need to reach 180 and I think she only had around 70 in school so that leaves 110 to get between now and summer. BUT, the woman who runs the association I joined told me that I can include things we did ie. trips to the zoo, museum, on our own towards school days so I know we are good. I'm doing it more for Joyce's sake. Things like her math I don't want to be taking into summer with us!
We only take days off for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, and Easter. Then we take days off as we need them. Right now we are looking at days off. We're getting ready to go back to Ukraine and will be packing and doing some travel before we leave. In Ukraine, we still take the same holidays off, but Easter and Christmas are celebrated on different days than ours. So we try to adjust for that. Then their calendar has all these traditional religious holidays, it seems like a different one each week! When our kids are taking music there, we find out about those holidays. Our kids are doing school, and the kids there are out of school. We want to have music class, but it's a holiday. Why are we having our kids in school on a holiday? Just the fun of living in a different country!
We don't take off for all holidays. We'd never get any work done if we did. We take off for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Easter is on a Sunday, so we don't take time off for that. We sometimes take a Spring Break, but not always, and we take a month off between grades. We also take off for our b-days. Then we just take off whenever we feel the need to. We school year-round and don't have to do a set number of days, so this works for us. Instead of taking the day off for a holiday, I'll sometimes have her learn more about the holiday. Other times we just do school as usual.
