Need serious advice

    I was reading the original post and the replies (which are all great) and I couldn't help but wonder if your wife is taking time to have fun with your daughter.

    Personally, I have a tendency to get so focused on the work that I forget to make it fun or at least make time for fun. Add to that the fact that my daughter tends to shut down when I get too "hard" on her. That leads to a vicious cycle with me getting more frustrated and her getting more closed off. Not good.

    She also works very slowly and is easily distracted. With her it seems to help if I tell her to finish X number of problems and then we'll do Y (something fun) for 5 or 10 minutes. Then she works on another set and we do another fun thing. It keeps her motivated and focused and helps me to not take things more seriously than I should.

    BTW, I'm not HS yet. This is what we do to get through homework and seatwork not finished in class during the allotted time.
