I have been meaning to post a huge praise the Lord and keep forgetting. DH and I have really wanted to take the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University class for many months now. We kept saying that we'd find a class when we got our tax return. The kit you need for class runs between $90 and $100. Well, Sunday morning a friend emailed me to tell me that they still had openings in the class starting at her church that night and the church was somehow offering the kits for, get this, $10!!!!!! So we're off like a heard of turtles on this one. I've already finished my homework for next week. It's so hard for me to not work ahead. I know there's no reason to, other than my own perfectionism, but I have to fight it. I want to listen to all the CDs while filling out the whole workbook, then read the whole text book. Then try to do all the baby steps at the same time. AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH. I have to keep telling myself that this system works for a reason, and to just take the whole 13 weeks to learn it like everyone else.
WOW! So glad that worked out for you guys! Let us know how it goes, and if you can keep yourself in check!
I LOVE DR! We have paid off so much and are almost debt free! We have a few more payments on our truck, but it is amazing what his plan can do! Good luck you will be so blessed!
What a blessing! God is good - isn't he? We took that class and it changed our lives so much. It's good to feel in control of your finances and not be a "slave to the lender." I hope you are blessed as much as we were. On a side note- he has website for class members that is very helpful. Lori
Thankfully my dh is very financially responsible! We pay off our credit card every month, and are debt free except for our mortgage payment. Not sure how to get around that one, since we haven't read any of DR's stuff. Does he mention mortgages?
Deena, DR says to make extra payments toward your house AFTER you have a fully funded emergency fund ( 3-6 months worth of expenses saved in CASH) , max out 401k / IRA's (15 % take home pay in growth stock mutal funds returning 12% annually) , save for kids college THEN pay off house! I recommend his book called The Total Money Makeover ( you can buy this at any store or borrow it at the library). It has all of his worksheets in it and all of the stuff he covers in his classes ( the baby steps) are in the book as well.
