Hello all. We are wondering if anyone knows a good cream, vitamin for dry skin? My son and daughter get it every winter and it sometimes hurts, itchy and RED.. One gets it on his arm and the other on her hands.... I would love to use something with out a bunch of chemicals... THANKS
I use the lotion from Arbonne. It doesn't contain all the nasty chemicals (though it isn't not 100% natural). However, putting anything on skin that's that dry will hurt like the dickens. Do you keep humidifiers running during the Winter?
I love Aveeda in the winter - It's made from mud from the Dead Sea so it has a lot of natural minerals and stuff in it. I get HORRIBLE red, dry itchy skin in winter, and this is the only thing that seems to help me.
I just called a friend and she said she uses plain oatmeal. She cooks it like she would to eat it, without any additives, then stands in the tub and slathers it on. She prays for a few minutes then turns out the shower. That's how she starts her mornings in the Winter.
FYI, that should have read that she turns "on" the shower, not "out". *sigh* And her praying is to pass time. Not to pray that the oatmeal works...lol. I just realized that I might have painted an image of an oatmeal laden woman standing in a dry tub reciting incantations.
Hand made hand cream You can buy all of these items at the dollar store, even the storage containers or jars! HOMEMADE HAND CREAM Effort: easy Comments: I have trouble with my heels cracking and hands are so dry. This is the best thing I have found for this. I have found the Vitamin E skin cream at Wal-Mart. INGREDIENTS: 1 (16 ounce) jar Clear Basics Vitamin E Skin Cream 1 (13 ounce) jar Petroleum Jelly 1 (15 ounce) bottle Baby Lotion INSTRUCTIONS: Mix by hand or with electric beater on medium until creamy. Store in air tight containers I was sent some of this by a "secret sister" it really is nice. Another recipe for the same also had 16 oz. jars or bottles listed, so it varries by store. you'll still end up with a large amount, good for gifts.
That's a pretty simple recipe ABall. I have some friends who'd probably like to try that. I think Hippy was looking for something without all those chemicals in it, though. Do you have any other recipes? (I'm only asking because I know you're a wealth of knowledge when it comes to recipes, and thought maybe you'd have more options).
I have very sensitive skin and very, very dry skin and I use Aveeno Body wash in the winter with Aveeno oatmeal lotion and Cetaphil. And during the summer I change to Dove body wash. Dermatologist rec. it.
My mom had some of the new Gold Bold lotion for very dry skin when I was visiting. It was fabulous!! Our pedi recommended Eucerin for my dd with eczema.
We use Eucerin Creme everyday for Emma's eczema. It is really thick but it helps. We use steroid meds when it gets worse but the Eucerin is great for everyday use. Before, we used Nivea Creme. It was alright but it burned Ems skin. The doctor said a lot of the burn comes from fragrances so we stay away from these when her skin breaks. We have also used baby oil on her skin when she gets out of the shower to lock in moisture. Then we go over her with creme. It is greasy but works as well. I hope you find something that works. Patty
What? No one has mentioned Burt's Bees products yet? My sister in law gave me some Body Butter one time that was really nice from them.
Because I've apparently lost my mind. Thank you for the reminder. Burt's Bees is one of the rare brands that I can get at regular stores (like Walgreens) that doesn't contains Sodium Laryl Sulfate, artificial fragrances or colors, petrolium based products, etc.
O MY!! I have extremely sensitive dry skin, and get eczema year round, mainly on my hands and arms, and it gets worse in the winter time, especially here in the desert of Western Colorado. I have used everything from cheap carmex and blistex (when I am desperate and my hands are cracking and bleeding) to expensive creams that you get from high end department stores. I have had prescriptions thrust upon me like Elidel, which is made for eczema but actually felt like acid on my skin. I have had more recommendations from just about everyone from doctors to next door neighbors to little old ladies in the check out line. I have used OTC creams, as well as made my own lotion concoctions and body lubes. But many months ago, I finally found the HEALS ALL!! It is the best lotion I have found and soothes even MY DRY skin. No disclaimers for young children or pets and since my kids also have dry skin, I use it on them as well and they don't smell like a medicine cabinet. And best of all it is found at your local neighborhood WAL-MART!!! What is it already??? Gold Bond Ultimate Healing & Therapy Lotion. http://www.amazon.com/Gold-Bond-Therapy-Ultimate-Healing/dp/B0002VAVRE It comes in two varieties - Aloe, (which I am not a fan of, as it smells funny to me) and Shea Butter (which is my new best friend). It can also be found at Sam's Club for an even bigger savings! Okay, off my soapbox now.
With Gas heaters my skin gets very dry well until I found some Great lotion at a beauty supply store its called Seven Wonders Miracle lotion it has aloe and 7 natural oils in it
That is what my doctor recommended for me to use on my dry skin. It is very thick. And is usually found with ladies cold creams.
I'm a dodo head...it's called AHAVA! Dermud is the one I use. I've used the really thick one, and the one called Dermud "body milk" which was more like a real lotion. My mom used to get it in Israel for me (although it is sold stateside, it's just cheaper if you buy it there). SORRY!!! Stare at a package every day and I couldn't remember the name??? OY! Although...my Ahava is running low, instead of paying stateside price for it, I may try that Gold Bond!
