In a classical education ??? I figure Latin would be cool cause of alot of reasons but greek ???What's the point in that ???
Why not Greek? Think of how many of our words have Greek roots. Check out the book "English from the Roots Up". It doesn't teach you the language, but instead gives a Latin or Greek root and all the English words derived from it. It's something I've learned to stress. Then when they come across an unfamiliar word, they have some idea of what it might mean by its roots.
I'd love for Nathan to learn Spanish,Latin & Greek.Right now he's doing Spanish at the Y & I'll put on his favorite DVD's in spanish because I want him to hear it alot.So he'll pick it up in a way no adult could. But I haven't seen Latin or Greek items for a 4 year old.So if you have any ideas I'd love to hear them. Also when do folks typically start teaching Latin & Greek. And do they teach them together or one of them first ???
There's a Latin text called "Prima Latina" you might want to check out. It's designed for young kids, but I doubt that it's for as young as Nathan. I've never used it. Do a search and see what you can find on it. Oh, I THINK it's mostly Church Latin.
What I know (and have learned) of Greek (I took two years of it in high school) is mostly more of a written language (I took what would be considered "New Testament Greek"). Anyway, that's something you'd have to start a few years from now, after he's already writing and reading English.
