My husband just can't get it, I don't need nothing for my preschoolers. I have 80% of what I want for 3rd grade. I am just waiting to finish up with something for reading. We have decided to go and buy the books we will read for the year that follow the program we are using. I don't need nothing for my preschoolers because I am repeating what we are using this year, along with learning to read. I have my own version of preschool in a bag. All educational toys for just school are in a large tote bag. The bag comes out during sit down school and goes away when done. I have a handful of readers for my preschoolers to help learn to read that were from their sister.
If you need nothing then that's great!!! I love when that happens and we use items for the next year also
Get some fun learning toys just to appease him haha. No really, that is awesome you don't need anything new!
Wow, wish I had that problem  My hubby looks at our all our book shelves and wonders why I keep getting packages...lol. Actually, I'm slowly getting in our stuff for next year as the budget allows....mostly so I don't overdue it at any of the summer HS sales around here. We have lots of HSers in the area which is great but at the summer used sales, you can drop a wad. I love a deal but I still haven't used all of last summer's deals and some of them ended up as duds.....so I'm trying to be a bit more selective....and just use the used sales for "extras". We'll see how it goes. If I can get good deals on the things I want, I may just skip the sales all together....that would be the cheapest option. Rhonda C
that is great, just tell him look at all the money we are saving? LOL anyway sounds like you got all your ducks in a row. I haven't even thought of next year yet.
I had my mind made of for next year and planned on ordering it all at once, but for some reason it just didn't feel right at the last minute. I told Freddy I wasn't sure that I wanted to order it and he said that is fine because he loved the curriculum fair last year and wants to go back and take our time choosing for next year. I love it that he is totally into this and enjoys it as much as I do.
That's GREAT! My dh is 100% supportive, trusts me with the decisions I make, discusses options with me, helps out with the homeschooling and cleaning of the house.........EVERYTHING! I LOVE that! BUT, he does NOT want to go to a curriculum fair. We went to one when we were first starting--10 years ago! "Been there, done that!" So we haven't gone. MAYBE I can get him to go to one with me in April. It's a Christian one, and some of our friends go to it and love it. We'll see. I'm not complaining, mind you. He's so great in so many ways, I'm not about to complain about one minor thing! And with websites and friends, we've probably saved money by not going and dropping a wad!
Hubbies are great but...most are not real exciting shopping buddies at a book fair. ROFL I'll throw my two cents worth in here. I thought about posting it on the other thread about bookfairs but....it will end up here instead. Before you go to any book sale have a list made of things you want to see and how much it cost. Makes sure you have some paper to jot some notes as you come across the products. If you see it and think "yuck" then please don't buy it. lol I've done curriculum counseling at Arlington and Woodlands book fairs for about 3 years as a part of Smoothing the Way. The service is FREE and we ask questions about what you are thinking about, age of kids, if you know their learning style etc...then we help to steer you to products for you to look at. If you don't like them you come back and tell us what you didn't like so we can recommend another. Gals this is such a COOL thing and such a blessing to so many that walk in the door of a book fair and are CLUELESS! Some of these people have just recently decided that their kid isn't going back to ps and it is scary for them. Ok...so anyway...if you can find a homeschooling shopping buddy that is the most fun but...walking around to the vendors and having them tell you about their product is fun, too. My hubby isn't into that (as most aren't) and so I really don't want him there. lol The other big plus to book fairs is the speakers that they have. Some of the vendors are there to sell their wares and some are purely educational. If you are in TX or in one of the other states that Smoothing the Way has branched out to...be sure to look for the STW booth as soon as you go in the book fair. Get some guidance and a map with "the lay of the land". STW doesn't do SETHSA or NTHEN just so you know.
I believe that last statement! When we went we were clueless and totally overwhelmed with everything! I wish we'd had a service like that to help us!
That's why this past summer, I went to a smaller expo in Norfolk rather than the huge convention in Richmond. I was still like a deer in the headlights and I knew exactly what I was interested in looking at, prices, etc....but still it was so overwhelming. I left a bit more confused and I had my LIST!!! Anyway, I ordered the MP3 of the big convention so I got all the classes (although not the personal touch of seeing them). Doubt I'll make it to Richmond this summer due to scheduling but I still plan to order the MP3 for the sessions. That STW service sounds wonderful!! I doubt I will ever get my DH to a conference. He's supportive of our HSing but is hands-off. He has no clue what curriculum we're using even though it all sits on shelves in the dining room/living room and I've discussed some with him but he's pretty good at listening but terrible at recalling it later  Now, he does ohhh and ahhh for the kids achievements (I usually call him or e-mail him on special days at work so he knows to come home and ask DDs or DS about some subject). Thanks for the tips Sheila! I am hoping to go to the hs curriculum fair in Arlington this year, but it is up in the air because I'll be 37 weeks that weekend, and all my boys were born around then (my daughter "cooked" a little longer, but this is a boy) so i'm basically doing a wait n see. Maybe we'll go down to the Woodlands in August though, we were supposed to last year but something came up at work for my husband & he couldn't get out of it. aisling
Carl is a great support to me when shopping at the conference! He doesn't plan on attending this year (feels he needs a break!), but in the past he goes with me on Thursday night when the Vendor Hall opens and the ONLY reason to be there is to shop. Usually I walk in, knowing EXACTLY what I'm looking for, and head directly for it. Then I spend the rest of the evening looking. Last year, he spent quite a bit of time looking at throwing knive. They were running a video demonstrating them. So later, I got talking with the gal who runs www.HeadsUpLearning.com about Faythe. Carl and her dh get talking, and the next thing I know, her dh tells her, "I'll be back...." and both men RAN off! They were gone for the next 15 or 20 minutes. Carl had taken him to see the knives, lol!
My husband went last year and we ended up buying the full NEst Family Video set! I usually end up spending a lot more $$ when my hubby goes with me anywhere - even the grocery store. Well...we got the OT and NT...not the heros of the Faith or the historical ones....I guess we'll get those this year! LOL I'd complain but he's pretty supportive. He is a big picture guy, though, so me trying to get help making decisions usually turns into an argument b/c he doesn't want all the knitty gritty details. I have all my girlfriends to talk over that with! Although when I mentioned Around the World in 180 Days, he loved the concept. Silly man!
I wish I didn't need anything. We switched just about everything we were doing. Hopefully I won't need as much the next year.
I have my lists made for next year for both kindergarten and 7th grade. The only thing I am not sure of is should I buy the Apologia set or the CD curriculum? My husband has no opinion on anything related to homeschooling other than he thinks whatever I do if fine. I don't even ask him anymore - just buy it. He doesn't care. He would rather poke his eye out than go look at curriculum!!
Based on my ds's experience, I'd say buy the CD set. The book can get rather dry, and harder to concentrate on. I think TMom's dd is using the CD curric. for Biology, and is doing well with it. Just a suggestion....
Ya know Deena that is what I was leaning toward. I think Samantha would like it better too. I am almost 100% sure that is what I will do.
