We are doing a free insects unit this week. What are you working on. Some that I want to do: dd wants to do butterfilies next, I'd like to do one on either chocolate or Valentine's Day soon. What are you working on? Kristine
We love to lapbook. Currently DD6 is finishing a book on groundhogs. In progress are a dinosaur lapbook and a "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" lapbook. Next up we have President's Day, The Valentine Bears, My Body, Easter, and "Charlotte's Web." We have more planned, but this will be good for a while! DD2 "completes" (with a lot of mommy help) a lapbook weekly based on The Letter of the Week Prep curriculum. You can check out photos of this on my blog!
My oldest DD (9.5) is periodically working on a lapbook on Colonial America. It's her first and a kit but we're adding to the "kit" here and there. My 7 yr old has done one on the Magic Treehouse book on Pompeii. We haven't really gotten into lapbooking alot yet but so far, so good Rhonda
We are finishing up our Creation lapbooks. Yes, this has been an ongoing project for quite a while at this point, but especially my oldest has enjoyed doing it as an overview of this coming year's science. What will we do next? I don't know really.... We're starting notebooks for history and for science, and we may do some for science subjects. We may do some for scouting subjects. I love the idea of using lapbooks to help with reading comprehension... but am still struggling a little with how to put that into play. Anyway. The littles might do some on literature studies and/or on animals. They're going to make an animals notebook. We shall see. Interested in reading everyone's responses... and thinking it may be a good idea to use lapbooks for holidays, because I have such a hard time sticking that lesson in our schooling anywhere, and that's generally what I can get for free.
We just completed What is Snow? (the older 2) and Katy and the Big Snow lapbooks. Dd6 is currently working on The Three Snow Bears. Then dd6 (and maybe dd4) will work on Frog Went A-Courtin' and The Valentine Bears lapbooks.
We will be doing one of butterflies this Spring. I also have templates for one on modesty that my oldest wants to do soon. Curently we aren't doing any lapbooks. My dd11 has done one on primates and one on Killer Whales in the past year.
Do you just find your materials online? Or are there books in your public library? (Sorry if this isn't the right place to post these questions! You can ignore these if I am "highjacking"... whatever that means! ) These ideas sound fantastic - and very engaging.
When I plan a lapbook (we're only lapbooking science right now), I look for stuff online, and at the library. Occassionally, I'll buy something--kind of depends on what I'm doing.
No, I just didn't post a link because I can't. being a Newbie and all, I can't share links until after a "while" Anyway, I found it on homeschoolhelperonline dot com click on lapbooks and then it will list a bunch of free ones. It's under Science. PM if you have problems and I can send you the link. Blessings, Kristine
I don't really get lapbooking? Is it different than journaling? Are there any articles / books on it that you'd suggest? We journal which is a daily write of a few paragraphs (4th grader) on whatever topic she likes. Sometimes it ties in with lessons, often she is free to choose. I read it and comment in the spirit of enjoying her thoughts and views. I try not to focus on spelling and grammar etc although sometimes, I do use it as the basis for future lessons but I try to avoid a specific tie-in.
