Maybe there will be others that go also. I am also looking at doing a bible study one day a week. There is a girl that keeps the kids while the moms do bible study. There is only one little girl that stays, but just getting out of the house and having one new face to play with will probably be good for the boys. (If I can get my little one to stay with someone other than myself....he (2 year old) refuses to stay in the nursery during church!). We (my husband and I) are starting to try to make a calendar and purposely schedule things in for the kids. RIght now, we usually talk ourselves out of going extra places, but I think with us living in isolation we need to make the effort to get out...rather than stay home.
Too bad that the library closer to you doesn't have a story time. But, this is a great idea, too. If you really want accountability - tell the kids ahead of time what you are planning. There is no way they will let you forget!!
That is true! I know I read some recommendations that it is better to stay home more in order to keep a homeschool routine going...but I think in our case, we need to get out at least every once in a while.
The beauty of homeschooling is the flexibility! Some families need strict routines to stay on track. Others can be more flexible and take a day "off" here and there to participate in other activities. It is all about what works best for your family.
Wow. it sounds tough for you. I'd think to make some virtual friendships for the kids, just like you are doing here. Find some other kids and families in similiar situations and set up email, chat, intersecting blogs, maybe use a free phone/video conference service.... This doesn't solve all the problems but it might help..... I don't know if there are any virtual penpal / friend services for this sort of thing in place. Are there?
That's an idea I hadn't thought of before. I have no idea! We did go to story hour today in the other town. It was....different, but the kids enjoyed it. I am still going to talk to the librarian here about starting one, with me volunteering to do the reading in the beginning. It doesn't exactly take much prep time. I just wanted my kids to get to hear someone else run the show for once...instead of me!
I have seen book store have story times also. Large chain stores as well as little local book stores, just something that popped into my head to suggest.
