I did it. I can't believe I did it! It was so hard that I nearly didn't hit the "confirm" button. DH was shocked that I managed it. He thought it would take me several more months to bring myself to do it. And of course, now I'm having tons of regrets. I went with my gut and maybe that wasn't the best choice. I mean, there are so many things to consider. Maybe I should have deliberated further until a logical choice revealed itself plain as day. But unless I call and cancel the order, I purchased all of DS' 1st grade curriculum for next year
Awesome! Relax, if you were confident enough to purchase it, then it was probably the right decision.
That's Great! I know exactly what I want to get. We can't get our taxes done until the 1st of March (that's the soonest we could get an appt with the one person at our tax place that can do them this year due to my starting a business last year). So, I'm just waiting to see how much we get back. As soon as I know how much we're getting, I'll finalize my list, based on what we can afford for the budget. Then, as soon as the money's in the bank, I'll place the order.
That is great! I still have not attempted to look into anything for next year. But I do have some ideas popping around my brain.
It'll be fine....and remember, we all end up buying something that we significantly tweak after purchasing (or at least I hope....we have certainly had some things like that this year). I've got a spreadsheet going on our next year stuff. With 3 kids, I needed to have it all typed up. My type A personality even has it color coded with red....already purchased and black.....still need to buy either before school begins or mid-yr. I've been buying things here and there as the budget allows but we'll get the rest when the tax refund hits the bank....or at least the essential fall stuff. I've got a few things (book 2s for Horizons math) that can wait unless I need them to get free shipping from Rainbow, etc. Congrats Amie....so what did ya get? My youngest will be in 1st grade next year too. Rhonda C.
Now, see, my type-A immediately thought of red as a deficit color, so I'd have used that for what I didn't have yet...lol. And I would have needed two different colors for "need to get now" and "need to get mid-year". Yeah, I know, I have issues. I got Math-U-See (my little guy is VERY kinetic). Everything else was Lifepaks (Bible, LA, Social Studies, Science). The Math-U-See was totally logical, but the Lifepaks were really just a gut feeling. I know my gut can be wrong, but every time I considered something else my mind kept going back to Lifepaks. Maybe it was the Lord. I guess we'll see next year. At least 1st grade is a good year to figure stuff out. If it doesn't work at all, yeah, I've spent a lot of money, but I can still wing it for the rest of the year.
LOL, I'm eyeballing stuff for next year too. I have a list going of stuff I want to get. The bad part?.... well, Noah started 3rd grade 2 weeks ago, so we have a full school yr before I need to buy anything for him! Now that my friends is BAD. I'm a curriculum junkie.
Sounds like a good plan. You can always add and subtract. We haven't used LifePacs but we're using SOS Science for my girls and doing Apologia Zoo 2 as a family. My little guy will continue with Hooked on Phonics (we just started level 2) & Explode the Code. He'll probably start his Horizons 1st grade math in about 6-7 weeks (total math guy). I already have Abeka History 1 from my current 2nd grader and he'll do the Apologia Zoo with sisters (might get an Abeka 1 science cheap from our local HS store...haven't decided). He'll start All About Spelling level 1 at some point and I haven't settled on his Lang Arts but I own First Lang Lessons so I can always use it if I can't make up my mind (until I do) and A Reason for Handwriting A. He's also got some Flashkids Sight Words workbooks that he's working thru slowly (he's not a sight words kid). I'm sure I'll tweak it as we go...but that's the spreadsheet. Rhonda C.
I'm a junkie, too! lol We use Calvert Math so...I keep an eye on ebay and when I see it cheap I order it. We are over 1/2 way through 4th grade and I have 5th, 6th & 7th books already (not the workbooks & tg for 6th & 7th but...a dear friend has the tg for 6th so...I'm going to copy the answers from the back). It is just too much fun to SHOP and geez curriculum is only making the kids smarter, right? lol
CONGRATS, Amie, for taking the plunge! I hope it all works out well! It'll sure be exciting to get it!!! I'm still popping too! I have things I want and need (I want to get Real Science 4 Kids Chemistry II for DD. I NEED to get TT Geometry for DS), and things I'm still tossing around. I'm actually deciding, Jackie from Ohio, what to do if the All American History II isn't out. Hmmmmm.....
Deena, if you find out when its gonna be out...please post it. I'm considering it instead of SL Core 4. We won't be ready for it in the fall but sometime mid-yr...thinking Nov/Dec. Rhonda C.
Cool!! I have just started thinking about what I want to purchase for next year, what we're using now is working well so i'll probably just continue him on with ETC and stuff.
I probably won't order ours until more towards summer. We are still working some kinks out. My daughter is flying through everything and though my son does amazingly well with everything but reading and language arts stuff... we are so struggling with that. I have actually shelved it completely for now, and I hate to do that... but it was needed. I feel like I need a completely different approach to make it work for him and I am not finding it out there at all. We have done ETC, and 100 Easy Lessons, and HOP. It just isn't happening for him yet. Now, in another year I will probably sit back and feel like I wasted my money trying all these different curricula for him and it will probably just pop for him. <shrugs>
Rhonda, This is the latest I can find on the Volume II. It's from Timberdoodle. http://www.timberdoodle.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1792
Thanks.....so hopefully even if they're a bit late...they'll still be in time for early fall. Rhonda C.
