which mixer is better??? I am looking into buying a mixer and I want a really nice one. I have heard great about both, but what is everyones opinion?
I don't know anything about Bosch. My KitchenAid is my favorite appliance in my kitchen, used nearly 3 or 4 times a week. LOVE IT. I got the Profession HD 5qt refurbished for nearly half the price. Had it for a year. Always wanted one. LOVE IT. Oh, did I mention, I love it? LOL
I always wanted a kitchen aid, got it a few years ago......... DH still wonders why I wanted blue, he figured I would want red for our kitchen........... so pick your favorite color and go for Kitchen Aid
I LOVE my KitchenAid too, but I have never used a Bosch so I don't know that the KitchenAid is better, I just know I love it I've had it for 4 years and never had a single problem with it. Hubby got me the ice cream maker attachment for Christmas and we are having fun with that
People who have a Bosch love them. I'd be happy with either, but am not sure I'd use it. What exactly do you use it FOR? I rarely use a mixer, and love kneading bread by hand. But maybe if I had one, I'd bake bread more often (which reminds me, I probably should bake today!)
I have my mom's Kitchen Aid that my dad bought her probably 20 years ago. She didn't use it much, so she gave it to me and I used it quite a bit, especially for frosting and cookie dough, dough. I'd probably buy another one when this one ever bites the dust. Kristine
I got the red Kitchen Aid about 2 years ago and love it. Waited over 30 years to be able to afford it!
FWIW - I have a KA and it does everything I need - plus lots of things I wish I had time for LOL. However, before I got it, our paper (in the Times famnily of newspapers - don't remember exactly where we were living at the time) did reviews of mixers. The KA got a lot of good marks, but the Bosch was rated better in every area. The main thing that spoke to me about the Bosch from the review was that the motor was stronger and the base sturdier, so the mixer never rocked no matter how hard it was working/how much you put in the bowl. This really was only an issue for me the time I tired to mix cookie dough for 12 dozen cookies at once...I got it done, though
My Kitchen Aid mixer just broke. We got a VitaMix for a wedding present and I LOVE it, but it has something wrong with its motor. While we're waiting to have enough extra money to send it out to be repaired, we bought a Kitchen Aid. (We have smoothies very often, so we are hard on blenders!) The first one didn't work, so we exchanged it. The second one worked for a while and then stopped. Charles called Kitchen Aid and they replaced it for free (with a newer model! ) It just died last week. I'm in smoothie-withdrawal! I expect the professional Kitchen Aid models would be more reliable than the little ones. On the whole, though, I recommend the Vita Mix! It worked great for 8 years, even after I accidentally ran it with the plastic lid inside (It is transparent.. I was wondering where it went, but I went ahead and used the machine without it... I noticed the machine was running a little noisily and it was taking longer to mix everything, but I didn't realize what had happened until we started eating the smoothie and noticed little shreds of plastic mixed in. ) The motor was never very happy after that, but it didn't actually die until earlier this year, 7 years after I shredded the cover.
Yeah, I was wondering about Vita Mix as well. This is hard choosing! I'm not quite ready for one yet, I don't think, but I'm strongly thinking about getting one as well.
I have a Kitchen Aide and LOVE it. However, I have heard that Kitchen Aide is not what it used to be and not to expect them to last as long as your grandmother's did. Not sure how true that is. I still have yet to hear of anyone complain. I did have a problem with mine within the first year and they replaced it with a better model and gave me another year warranty. Had it a year with NO problems. I really love mine!
My mixer is a cheap brand from Walmart. I like to use it for cookies, frosting, cakes, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and for mashing beans. It really has come in handy.
I have had a KA Professional 5 qt for 3 years, until right before the holidays. The worm gear wore out. A friend sent me her old one, that she has used for 10 years after she got a new one as a gift. It works great. I think I was overloading mine. Now I am very careful with how stiff a dough I make with it. I have a friend who has a Bosch, and really loves it. I think she can make stiffer dough and more loaves at once. So, if you are a hard core baker, you might want to go with the Bosch. I use my KA almost every day.
