We will refinish our kitchen cabinets with paint also. We would have to win the lottery (if we palyed) in order to afford new ones.

How do you get the distressed look after painting them without the look of simply "Banged up white cabinets"?

    That is an awesome transformation!

My bedroom is just as bad as your before shots...if not worse! I think I might be brave enough to post pictures, except, it would take about ten years for me to share the "after" shots! J/K...we used our tax return to get a new bed, so we have to tackle it relatively soon. I ordered a bed from Overstock.com and it said 1 to 6 weeks shipping time. So that's a pretty wide timeframe.

What's really funny is that we have a green flannel sheet tacked up over the blinds because the sun rises on that side of the house. And my bedroom is the total catch-all. I swear it looks like a scene from "COPS"!

Distressing after painting...literally you hit it with chains and sand in spots to give that "shabby chic" look. :D

I was thinking that you could squish it with a rag soaked in TEA to age it, eh?

I'm just saying, because I know that mine would come out looking like cheap-o white cabinets that some lady let her kids beat up on.. verses a cool shabby chic distressed. hahaha!

We rebuilt my moth in laws kitchen from scratch, so we have done many renovation projects. But the distressed thing always trips me up. I love the look though!

We are putting solid wood planks on each step of our stairs and we plan to distress them and stain them for a more rustic look. awesome!

When we moved into our house about 7 years ago, we almost totally gutted it. We did 99% of the work ourselves. It looks so awesome (to me) now. But we never took before pics. Now we could just kick ourselves for not doing so.

BTW, your room looks awesome. WTG!!!!!

You use sandpaper to rub some of the paint off of the edges. Our cabinets are the standard cheap-o cabinets with no hardware. They do have a recessed area in the middle that I'll be able to take some sandpaper to. You can also rub stain on over the white paint to give an aged look.

    LOL!

It feels soooooooooooooooooooooooo good to walk into my bedroom that is an actual bedroom now. Before I felt as though I was sleeping in a closet.

Told my ds is feels fancy like a hotel room now. AND I actually have a real bedspread rather than my kids hand me down Disney comforters. LOL

The off white curtain is for my bathroom. We remodeled my bathroom and never bought a new door. LOL So now I use a new curtain. Before the makeover I had dresses hanging in the doorway and another dress on a hanger with the hanger turned to the side in order to make a doorway cover. Podunk, I know!

The striped fabric behind the clothes cabinet actually covers a doorway that has been closed off with drywall and insulation. Haven't finished up the drywall though. The doorway is to my youngest ds' bedroom. When my kids were younger I didn't feel comfortable not having a direct route to the rest of the house so we put in a doorway. Just in case of fire. We have a wood stove right outside our door in the livingroom and have always been concerned about having a fire and having no way to get to our kids.

My kids are older now and we have oodles of smoke detectors so we closed off the doorway.
