I am looking for a nice History Program that is a little hands on and I noticed someone mentioned Homeschool in the woods. It looks very neat, but could you use it alone? As your history curriculum for the year? This is my first year hsling and we used Sonlights Core one for my 6 & 9 year old. It was a beautiful program, but didn't work for us at all. I am trying to piece my own curriculum together for them for 2008-2009 school year and haven't found a history program that popped out at me. My daughter is now 10 and will be 11 next Dec. I am at a loss to what I should be doing for History right now. We were going to do Bob Jones Heritage studies 4, but this homeschool in the woods looked very interesting and hands on. So after that long, drawn out story, I just wanted to know if it could be used as a full year history program. Thank you:? I should mention that I was looking at Bob Jones because my daughter was talking about maybe going back to ps in a few years:cry: and I wanted to make sure she would be close to on track. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

You might look at Winter Promise; it uses Mystery of History as its spine instead of Story of the World. (You could also look just at MOH, but WP is set up similarly to SL... but for me is a lot easier to understand - on the teacher end - than SL was.)

Homeschool in the Woods... I don't know about an actual history program, but I do know that the author of MOH advises that students doing the timeline in that book use the CD from them. I looked at some of their materials the other day, and they look pretty good! I don't have enough info to give an opinion on whether any of it could stand alone, though, sorry!

Homeschool in the woods, Time Travelers

I have used the Time Traveler program for New World Explorers and it was great! I would totally recommend it. You read a section, then do some great hands-on projects. You would probably need at least 2-3 of these for a whole year's worth of history. I think they also have Colonial Times. I think it would be great to go to the library and get some books to go along with what you are studying. So my vote is YES! Hope this helps, :)

    Time Travelers

Oh, I forgot to say-if you want to know about all the different projects, I could make a list of what we did in New World Explorers to show you what it is like!

This Cd starts off with a lesson, then gives projects to do for that lesson. They give you a whole month's worth of things to do(that's if you do it every day), so if you spaced it out it would last a lot longer. Here are some of the lessons and activities-The reasons Explorers Explored, Line of Demarcation, Navigational Equipment, Anatomy of a Ship, Study of Spanish money(make a treasure chest with this one), Sea Monsters, Geographical Terms, Making a lapbook at the end of the study, Pirates, Pirate game to make, Explorers' Diseases, making a Captain's Log(this was great!), old Sea Sayings, Vocabulary, Ship and Navigation Terminology, Sailors' Knots and how to tie them. There may be more, but these are the ones we did. Hope this helps!

These sound so neat and I have never heard of them before. Thanks for the info, I think my son would really enjoy something like this.

What age group would you use these programs with?

    Time Travelers

The Time Travelers is suggested for grades 3-8. I just checked their web site(www.homeschoolinthewoods.com) and they show all the projects and the 3 different CDs you can pick from-New World Explorers, Colonial Times, and American Revolution.

Homeschool in the Woods is a very good product. There are some really neat activities in them. Now I do have to say that my sister knows the family that makes these so I might have a bias. I have some of them from my sister that she used with her kids and I will probably get some more when dd is old enough for them.
