    We live about a house away from the local grade school.
    Dh was in garden gardening, and we were watching a plane fly in circles, he said its the police patrol plane and he figured they must be doing road serveys.. I wondered if it was something else cause it was flying in circles and after ds10 went outside I came in.
    Dh heard the teachers calling the students in from play yard and then saw neighbor who's wife is a teacher there running and motioning for him to hurry to him.
    Neighbor informed him that there was a man with a rifle in the neighborhood up and police were chasing ... to get inside. Dh heard gun shots too so he send ds in and put his stuff away to come in too.
    SO I said we are on lockdown untill further notice!
    SO hey, even home schools can have danger!
    :shock::!:

    I'm so glad you are safe. Keep us posted on whether or not the police caught the nut.

    Isn't that a mess, TM? We had some idiot running from the cops blow right past our house one morning! If I remember right, he crashed just up the road. Dimwits!

    well the police stopped driving around and the plane left so I am assuming that they got him... whew?
    Parents went to the school to pick up their kids today more than normal.
    but the neighborhood is pretty quiet now.
    Pretty weird usually its at night when we have the circling helos and all that. Nice that hubby was home to keep us safe!

    What a scary experience. Funny now that you can laugh about it though. I guess you can use this to point out that homeschoolers get real world experience too! :) The thrill of danger....the sound of a copter overhead....lockdown at school. Yep, we did that!

    I was going to add something witty about the socialization part of this. But I have been beat to it.

    The irony of it all is that when I hear of things like lock downs at our local high school I always say "That is why we home school!" to my kids, so even dd said now when one of my friends at church says "Wow that must be boring to home school.." I'm going to say "Well, actually just the other day we had to be in lock down because a guy with a gun was running around the neigborhood..." and see what they say about that mom!
    It is always good to keep a good attitude about things. I have mentioned before ususaly I hear the helos at night chasing someone wiht the cars and sirens on the ground so at least this was in day light.
    And we live in a nice enough neighborhood you would not think to look at it that there was anything scary about it, lol but these days you have to be cautious wherever y ou are, home school or outside school.
