...and I just need to get it out. I know (think) I am in the right, but it's my family and EVERYTHING I do is wrong, so sometimes it seems I am insane, kwim?

Anyways, my Mom never wanted us as kids to go to relatives homes on holidays, especially Easter and Christmas. She didn't want to "take us away from our toys and home." So this Easter I said we should all come out here and have dinner and an egg hunt, she didn't like that idea even though I am the only one with kids in our family. I pushed hard enough and got my way. In the process we were talking about the time and she wanted to do the things around 1, I told her we were going to church and couldn't do it at that time. She got all huffy and said, "So, you'll take them away from their toys to go to church, but not to Grandma's house??" I was shocked and said, "umm...yeah, Easter is about Jesus, church is about Jesus, so yeah, we're going to take them away from their toys!"

    Ugh...gotta love my family.

Your mom sounds set in her ways. My mom would used to always have us at home for Christmas morning when we were kids. Yet, she made the comment last year, "isn't Christmas morning a grandmother's tradition?" WHat? Not until SHE was the grandmother. MOMS!

One day we will drive our kids just as crazy. LOL.

My Mom just told my kids about how she always made us an Easter basket with all kinds of candy and a new toy. She asked me what I put in my baskets for the kids. She got kinda peeved when I told her that I had never made the kids a basket like that. I just don't get into the whole Easter bunny, etc. I figure they get enough candy and junk elsewhere, why bother.

So....this year I made them baskets with crackers and juice boxes. <--updated version

Our baskets were pretty much a couple eggs with candy and then some fruit. They did get some shirts for church, but we needed those anyways.
